Title: Rare Beast CB750 Britain
Post by: Skoti on February 28, 2021, 09:02:06 AM
Here's a "rare beast" for our experts to dissect.

But is it worth almost eight grand?

Doesn't seem that overpriced based on what you see them advertised for - would want a bit off to have an original exhaust made though

"Just needs carbs sorting" such a short sentence to cover so many things that could be wrong  :)

How can they confirm the engine rebuild is good if it's not running properly?  F2 is relatively specialised in details, compared to the knowledge people throw at it.  And you see so many that have the wrong knowledge used.

Scared of the PD carbs more like. If it was that easy to fix they would fix it. Suspicious I would stay away.

Why would you need to rebuild the engine completely with 14k miles on the clock. Must have been seriously abused or left standing with an engine full of petrol or something similar. Things just doesn't add up on that bike.

It's the slightly vague description of engine being rebuilt and only 100 miles, but doesn't run properly. If it's been taken in like that, then they don't really know what's inside it and just guessing.

Or do they have the skills to rebuild one properly but just can't be arsed now to complete a debug and make sure it's going in a way that would match the price.

Either way, it looks like they are winging it. Suggestion that it would be worth more IF running properly doesn't wash, in effect they are offering something with a verified fault (it doesn't run correctly) which would bring the question up from someone buying it as to any future problems.  It just goes round in circles really, else needs an owner willing to accept they'd have to correct anything wrong and be comfortable about that eventuality.

But that would likely mean a different price,  they can't have it both ways,  can they?

Correct, fix it and sell at full price with the warantee they have to give as a dealer or sell at a "markedley reduced price" with no warantee(at least i think that was trading standards wording!)

As my schoolmate of mine ...'Lord Charles' ...called that 'cos he was posh .... said when he flogged his Tiger Cub after tipping some sawdust into the engine oil the night before he sold it .... "There's always at least one mug out there Ash".

What happened to the Henry Cole restored one that he found in a London garden?
