Title: Master Cylinder
Post by: Kev on August 23, 2022, 12:27:02 PM
I'm trying to identify the master cylinder shown in the pictures, it was put on my 500/four when it had the twin disk conversion many years ago, I didn't do the conversion, it is embossed  2   T   1   5/8,  I know the 5/8 refers to the bore and piston size but I have spoken to a number of the classic bike suppliers to no avail. The piston is 5/8" dia. x 49/49.5mm long. I'm trying to locate a repair kit for this master cylinder but suppliers have all the sizes except this one.

Looks like a GL1000 Master.

Later Gl 1000 with the clear reservoir, if so should have a brakelight micro switch

Yes it does have the micro switch underneath. All the repair kits that I have found are either a different diameter or a different length, mine is 5/8" (15.8/15.9mm) dia. x 49/49.5mm long, it seems to be a one off.

It looks to be a standard GL1000 cylinder Kev. Surely a repair kit is available for one of those.

Thanks, that would be great, it would be interesting to see where the extra 5mm of length is, if it's the end that contacts the brake lever then it would foul the lever and wouldn't fit, if the 5mm extra length is inside the cylinder is there enough room for it to work properly or would it just compress the spring more. After what you said about the wrong parts being fitted these are just thoughts going through my head but thanks anyway for your input.

Happened to me when I had my GL650, ordered a master cylinder kit, of course it wasn’t the right one. Master cylinder was from god knows what, got there eventually. Good luck!
