Title: Work in progress
Post by: philcarroll_1985 on August 09, 2020, 09:05:53 AM
Hello all, like a few other I think I was on the American site and have been directed over here. Long story short, the bike has been off the road for 4 years and stored outdoors under a not so good cover. Bike now on the road and ride-able but still needs plenty doing. Also a few progress pics below

My biggest bug bear at the moment os the fact it Misfires and stalls when out in the rain, any ideas on how to get around this? (apart from not going out in rain at all before anyone says )

Welcome.

I can't quite work out if your plug caps still have the UK market metal shrouding on them but if they do, swap them for new NGK  all plastic ones.

If the HT leads themselves are shot ... the PVC HT cable inner goes hard and  fractures at the section where the lead exits the coil moulding, then  you could use my write up to fix them.

Welcome to the forums, nice to see another one resurrected.
As to riding in the rain I had the same problem on my CB750K1, I tried changing everything and then one night I looked under the tank and it was like a lightning storm under there loads of arcing. So I sealed the HT leads where they entered the coil and problem solved.
Before this I tired changing the plug caps coating the leads with WD40, I even protected them with sections of plastic hose pipe nothing worked, most embarrassing going over the M62 on one cylinder.

Cheers

Dennis

A nice looking survivor...I do like to see honest unrestored bikes. As has been mentioned recently on a few threads, you could try reversing the coils so that the leads exit from the rear and thus get less wet in the rain. Failing that I would imagine that a replacement set would probably sort the problem...
