Title: Probably finished?
Post by: bobv7 on April 29, 2020, 04:45:22 PM
After spending far too much on it according to the wife, the bike is just about where I want it. That is, I could ride it if it wasn't for the virus. For the sake of my marriage I've decided to compromise on keeping it absolutely stock as there will always be something wrong; like the chrome edging around the tank doing nothing useful and costing more than it's worth. Mine has gone brittle and a bit has broken off so if I can work out something else to replace that with I will. I don't want to get the tank resprayed 'cos I like the strange shades of colours showing through and it would also mean getting the side panels done as well. :)

Looking great Bob, you should be pleased with the finished result  :)
Never tell the wife, or yourself what you have spent on a bike, destroy all paperwork relating to any bills etc (or hide them in the loft!). Unless of course you intend to sell it straight away (and you'll never get your money back!!!).

Thanks Dave, found out a long time ago that the way to make a small fortune selling bikes is to start off with a large one!

Think I'd better keep this one. ;)

Thanks Julie, even goes quite well after I found out that a 180 degree bend in the fuel line turns it into a 250! Well, I had to pop down to the shop for milk, didn't I? ::)

Cracking result Bob.

The very ones. They went on pretty easily much to my surprise, and with only a few adjustments before tightening everything up just as you'd expect with any old bike. Just need a good hard run to see if I can turn those down pipes a decent shade of blue! :D

Mine turn a bit blue and they are the originals.

Oh well, can't have everything but I'm quite pleased with the way the bike has turned out generally. Not too showy and obviously used.

Looking great Bob!

Personally, I prefer bikes (and cars) to look their age and to have lived a life (unless restoration/replacement is the only option) - my K1, which is original, has got a few scuffs here and there and I like it that way. I had the paintset done by Menno as the paint was way past its best, but decided to keep the original tank trim which has a few cracks and dents but fits perfectly.

The plus side to this approach is that I don't get too precious about things

Thanks mate! Whenever I got a new bike it was always a great relief when I either dropped it or marked something, (not deliberately of course), but that meant I could stop worrying and just use it. :P
