Just completing full restoration on my 550F3 , ordered a replacement wiring harness from Silvers and noticed a lot of the the cable colours are different from the original and don’t match up with the handle bar switches etc .Should I order an original harness from CMS for the extra cost . What’s your experiences with aftermarket harnesses.

I can not even find a listing on Slivers site for a F3, only K3. The F3 was USA and is the same as a UK F2 ;)
-
Probably why it’s different as I thought the one i got of silvers was for the F model , i will double check that the OEM one listed on the CMS site is for the F2 . Failing that i might try to refurb the original one .

I am a little confused here as, the picture of your bike has small indicators and the USA unit had larger ones :o Does your bike have the VIN plate on the head stock or on the frame just behind the right side panel ?
I have just had a good look at the original loom on a F2 and then a good look at the wire colour on the aftermarket loom and the loom looks identical, with the same colour wiring .

It has the vin plate badge on the frame next to side panel and also stamped on the frame

That is a UK CB550 F2 and it states that on the VIN plate and not a F3 from the USA so, not sure were you are getting F3 from :o
-
Ok must be me being a bit thick , checked on the frame number and I thought it was in the F3 range .
-
So i am gathering that if the vin number starts with a 2 its then a F2 .
-
If your bike is a USA import it is a F3. If your bike is a 1st registered UK bike and was not registered overseas prior to 1st registration in the UK, it is an F2.
A USA F2 VIN starts with a 20 number, a UK F2 VIN starts with a 21 number.

Thanks guys , but i am a bit confused about the wiring loom that I’ve bought from Silvers , it clearly states its for a F2 , i also bought a right hand switch gear genuine honda and the wiring colour does not match the switch wires .

Maybe it's not the correct frame for the rest of the bike Chris. I have a bike, a Mongrel, that by VIN has a K3 frame, which is correct but the rest of the bike is made up of CB550F engine and other parts and a big dose of CB 500K parts as well. But, if anyone goes by my VIN they would say its a 550 K3.

Just been checking the new wiring loom from DS and it seems that the green earth wire colours are now red and white on the replacement loom, very confused .
-
Just because you bought a GENUINE switch from slippery Sliver it, does not mean that it is original for your bike. Genuine just means it is a Honda Part and maybe from any other Honda Bike.
RED/white is live not earth/ground ;)
-
Chris, the other side switch gear you bought from me was an original part, so the wire colours on that should have been the same as the corresponding wire colours on your loom, it that correct?.
-
The loom is a really bad copy as they’ve used different coloured cables as per original , spot the earth colour . See photo of the rear of the loom .
-
Hi Oddjob ,I’ve checked my loom and its correct for a F2 as the handle bar switch wires have bullets and joins under the tank next to the coils .
I think i will refurb the original loom as its defiantly repairable.

Contact Slippery Sliver and ask for a refund >:(

Can’t believed Silvers are selling bad quality looms , the guys whom made this were certainly colour blind , think they may have run out of green cable , they had even put a green sleeve over the main earthing lug lead .
Checked my old loom and all the handle bar switch wires match up perfectly.
