My beloved Honda CB400F2 was officially registered as 'Historic' on April 1st in that she is 40 years old, as most of us know that means I didn't have to spend £66.00 on road tax or £35.00 on an MOT certificate, nor will I have to anymore at all. But the real saving is that I will not, unlike most people after April 12th, have to pay £12.50 a day for the privilege to ride in central London! The new ULEZ is Sadiq Khan's stealth tax for his pet projects I bet, because very few people drive in central London if they don't need to, and it means many people will simply take the long way around. I know how to navigate the place and on two wheels so I go there often, it helps having heritage between my legs!!! To check if you are affected (you probably are not) here is the ULEZ checker... https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/vrm-checker-ulez?fbclid=IwAR1wvdHPzUNlgxQ6F2rpCDIg3aRKk7pjn8GqNn4KdVSYg_DuL7gqrU_FuRE

Well done for avoiding the charge. I didn't know the historic status applied as a way of avoiding the charge. the bad news is there are plans to extend the ULEZ charge in a couple of yearss to anything inside the north and south circular so in other words, everybody will pay!
In my opinion if they want to protect the future generations from pollution in London the first thing they should do is to ban the daily school runs made by parents who are too lazy to walk their kids to school and give them some much needed excercise! It's chronic around Ruislip where I live in the mornings and afternoons with SUV's carrying one child with the parent stopping on the yellow 'no parking' zigzag lines outside the school! It's strange how parents insist the goverment do something about greenhouse gases etc and yet they themselves pollute the air around the very schools where their kids are taught! There are three underground lines around here and about 10 bus routes (on which the kids get free travel) and still the parents insist on taking kids to school in cars in case of boogey men! I run in the mornings and you can taste the diesel fumes at road junctions (and it was the goverment who insisted we all buy diesels!).
When I was a kid in the 60's/70's I had to walk two miles to school and back, we couldn't afford a car, strange though that I'm fit and healthy, most likely due to daily excercise taken from an early age!
Dont forget the ULEZ charge will only apply to working class people with old cars and motorbikes, the rich in their new cars and company cars will still drive in for free just paying the congestion charge.
Rant over, shall we discuss #@%$ now to lighten the mood ;)......

Dont mention the B word ;D

Hmm.....so if I buy another pre '79 frame.....and then drop in a modern motor and running gear.....I have a 'historic' vehicle

One of many reasons I stopped working in London.
I was offered a small fortune kitchen painting but I would rather travel three times the distance in the opposite direction for half the money.

I asked my neighbour why she drove to the gym, less than a mile away. She looked at me as if I were simple.
"I won't know how many steps I did then, will I" she said.
Some people never had the plot to begin with.

I ride past those Remainers outside the Houses of Parliament quite a lot....I always shout '#@%$ now!' My sister came over from Germany to visit me, she had to stop me getting into a fight with a star painted clown with a blue face. I told him to visit my referendum mascots page because he has a message for you! http://www.seawitchartist.com/#@%$-the-Bear.htm
Here is my piccie at the recent Brexiteers march on the 29th....

You are in danger of stirring up a hornets nest! as we all have different opinions on #@%$, best left out of a forum on Hondas.

Yes for any newcomers, site unwritten rules are no #@%$ discussion.
There's enough of it about anywhere you care to look. :)

A lesson in how to lose 17,000,000 potential customers. Put stuff like that on a site you are trying to sell things on.

Pull a wheelie! On an RE 250 you must be joking!t
EDIT this was put in the wrong place by mistake, should have been the golden era one.
My excuse is i am old

Nice to see a man of conviction. Until its pointed out something might be costing you a few quid and you've now removed it from your website. I wonder how much its cost you since you added that page.

Did you look at the link to the Brexsh-t the bear page. The reason for my first post. It has now been removed from his website. The reason for the second post.

The idiot Khan would love the traffic here in Bangkok

I have a friend that does the same. I asked why he doesn't just run to the gym, touch the door, then run home again. Wouldn't need to pay a gym membership then. And it would be far more interesting. We used to live opposite a YMCA gym and the car park was the busiest in town.

I’ve just checked my 1974 550 and it says I have to pay the charge.
It’s registered as historic so is mot and tax exempt?
-
I would check again, maybe there is an error. Historic vehicles are exempt ULEZ. You are sure you have you been to the post office and checked your status?
-
I’ve just checked the registration from the pic in the first post, that’s not exempt either.
-
That's definitely an error on the system then as all of mine are exempt. But, the latest one registered as historic, on April 1st this year, is not showing as ULEZ exempt yet as I haven't even had the changed log book back yet, so its still going around the DVLA circles.

On April 1st mine reached 41 years and I took my log book to the Post Office who sent part of it to Swansea, the new log has yet to arrive (I may ask them) but long before I did this the ULEZ checker told me my tax class waas exempt, it clearly predicted what would happen.... so Sadiq's new toy has malfunctioned for SteveW surely?

interesting view here https://youtu.be/RgXsDyJ7N-w?si=0vf69WlWPjL716Po obviously looking at the NoX criteria that many don't realise is the trigger point.

My Honda 400 has no emission figures on the V55 is shown as Historic but is not exempt from ULEZ on the TFL site.

All vehicles registered as Historic are ULEZ exempt. The computer system may not reflect this though. There's a section on Historic vehicles in the TFL document.

A friend of mine has a CB750 K7, on the site it says he has to pay the charge. He called them and discussed this with them, they told him that they amended it and updated the system at their end but it still showed as having to pay the charge on the site, but he has been riding the bike with no issues. May be worth giving them a ring?
-
Just realised this was from 2019!!! I really should pay more attention!!

I have not driven in London since Wendy gave up working down there in the mid 1990s. I would not want to be in the position of challenging TFL once the fines had been issued with all the implications of court threats, credit score impact & warding off Bailiff's etc.😁
-
We got two fines last year when staying over at relatives, spent so much time watching my speed I didn't even notice the ULEZ zone and we thought our Tiguan was compliant. Anyway we thought what's the harm in appealing so did and haven't ever heard back from them.
ULEZ dodged!

There's an ongoing war between motorists and the recent expansion of the ULEZ in London. So many ULEZ camera's have been damaged or torn down the mayor has resorted to buying a fleet of vans equipped with CCTV to catch motorists. Whenever these are parked people deliberately park cars and vans directly behind them to block the CCTV camera. It's either this or standing in front of the camera with placards. Things have become so bad the mayor has now employed 'security guards' to travel in the vans. They are nothing more than hired thugs. They tried to force a couple of protesters away from a can in Hillingdon on Wednesday. The police were called and told the security guards they had no rights to prevent a peaceful protest! Last week Croydon Council issued two FPN's on two CCTV vans as they have not given the mayor permission to operate these vans for enforcement purposes. Other London boroughs have done the same. ULEZ is one big con and has nothing to do with saving the environment, it's a cash cow and an unfair tax on the motorist and those who cannot afford a ULEZ compliant vehicle.
