Kenny it is just a bit of skill. You also need to compress a little more. If the compressor is set right it is very easy.

Mick, you need to compress a little more down the stem. I have my compressor set so it is 5mm past the collets, place them in with a little grease and the release the compressor so it comes up fast. If the valve cap is not coming up even then it will always knock the collets out.

You need a valve spring compressor. Yes, a bit of grease will hold the collet. make sure you hit the valve once in, to make sure the collet is seated right.
Also make sure that the two washers are over the valve guildes. Sometimes they will fall out or the inner one will glue itself to the bottom of the spring.

Billy, i had the same problem with a CB550 clock. Stripped it - rebuilt it with a load of new parts and still had the same problem. In the end i sent it to Clockndials and he fixed it. May be worth giving him a ring.

That is stupid money for clutch plates from DSS. EBC sets are less than half that price.

I have a full set of originals but, they are chromeless. Yes, you did read that right. Without the chrome.
Oddjob, do you have a part number for those?  ;)Was thinking of having them Black chromed. Don't think anyone has a set of those :)

CX500, CX500 the worst bike in the world ;) Was my bread and butter for years, must of built over 2,000 of those engines. Nothing wrong with the engines but, people forgot to change the oil or they had a weeping mechanical seal and blocked the drain hole which caused the water to be pushed in to the oil.
The London work horse from 1978 upto 1995 and still see a couple knocking about.

Ewan, i think Norniron jacked up his back end on this 400, give him a shout. I know hes a shy boy but, he knows this cafe stuff. Washers is always worth a try and cheap. You never know until you try.

Ewan, because you have jacked the back end up you need to stiffen the front end. You could try a couple of washers in the forks to tighten up the springs a bit. This is the cheapest option. Do you still have the old springs in?

Bitsa, single stay mudguards came from Honda ;) Most singles will be found in the states. Why? only MR HONDA knows.
Double stay listed as ED & E (European Direct & England)
