If it won't run off choke then it must be running really lean (too much air or too little fuel.  My guess is clogged jets starving the engine unless you block the airflow with the choke.

You will have to disassemble the carbs and clean the jets, which is not really surprising after all those years.

John - it shows you as a visitor. Have you quit??

I've only ever seen red or black F2s so it could be the same.

Anyone seen any other colours?

Probably depends on where you are.  The US models are fairly well described on various websites, the UK/Europe not so.

I think they ditched the yellow for the F2 and stuck with a very dark red (nearly black).

I think those Tracy kits look gorgeous - the only one I've ever seen was on a 550.

The clutch will rattle if the carbs are out of synch as each cylinder \"fights\" against the others each revolution.  Make sure you do all the other normal tune up things before the carb synch.

I'm afraid that the early DOHC fours had a fearsome reputation for self destruction (especially the 900s)

The fact that yours has survived this long is good news however.

You are probably better off asking these questions on the DOHC forum s which are at www.cb900c.com  This is a US site aimed at the Custom models, but I'm sure they will answer your questions.

Yes.

Last time I did this was on a mates G5 CB360. We didn't bother with the pistons and the rebuild lasted about 3 weeks!  And you thought you only got piston slap on a two stroke...

Your best bet is to PM Mike Rieck - problem is he only deals in real good (read expensive) stuff.

There's a FAQ here:

With all those performance goodies you may well have to rejet significantly.

First check that all four choke butterflies are working as it is not unknown for these to jam (or even to have been reassemble incorrectly ;) )  If they don't all close, starting will be difficult even in standard form.

Acc pumps were fitted on the later carbs to aid quick (snap) throttle performance as the carbs were leaned out so much that snapping open the throttle would cause the engine to bog.

Try posting this question on www.sohc4.net/forums as there are some guys there with all thew goodies (like you) and who have experience of rejetting and drilling carbs.

Is it intermittant on 3 cylinders or all the time?  If you have fuel (plugs are wet?) then it could be a plug or cap that's breaking down under the new (higher) voltages.

I agree with John.

The Dyna kit will make it easier to start and run more efficiently - I've never heard of anyone having to swap plugs.

CB750 / Re:pistons won't retract
« on: June 19, 2006, 04:44:24 PM »
You are definitely doing the right thing.  The piston is retracted when you release the brake lever by the pressure reduction in the system (ie the fluid goes back to the master cylinder)

To work smoothely, the piston and pad must move freely in the caliper.  If the pads are new, they sometimes need sanding down as the painted edges always seem to stick...  Also, when you have it apart, remove the square-section seal and clean the groove with a toothpick (or similar) as any gunge in there (and there always is) will press the seal onto the piston and make it stick.

Finally, the piston itself may be corroded so smoothe it down with some wet and dry.

When reassembling, make sure that the piston moves freely in the caliper and that the pad does likewise before refilling and bleeding the system.

In my experience, adjusting the screw on the caliper pivot does very little.

Oh, and take the pivot apart while you are there as they sieze up too and cause brake squeal.

I know that if the crankcases have been replaced at any time (due todamage usually caused by broken drive chain), the normal engine number space is blank.

Can you post a picture of the F2 engine number and location?
