Put some oil and petrol in it and....
Started up no bother. After spannering every single nut and bolt in the engine it's a relief. I just rode it around the block a few times owing to the fact there's no headlamp, no MOT and I wasn't wearing a helmet.
Sounds a bit clattery at low revs but I reckon that will go when I've synced the carbs. The clutch needs adjusting as does the choke (sticking somewhere)
Shouod be OK for the Crich Tramway museum trip.

Well done Mike. My engine will be coming out at the end of the summer and I'm threatening to do the strip and rebuild myself.........with no help from him indoors :o :o :o :o I hope it's as successful as yours.

Been crazy busy some of us haven't retired just yet.
Good job I finally managed to sort the 550 fork seals out just got to do the 750 ones now and re MOT it.

The sunshine beckoned so I went out for a blast today on it and there's a troublesome problem with the gear change. It doesn't want to change down or go into first from neutral. I was thinking I had to remove the clutch and have a look at the gearchange bits. Anyway, rode it home and I found the gearchange was on the wrong spline and the boot was biffing the sprocket cover - which is why it wouldn't change down. So that's sorted.
Other issues; weeping from the rocker shaft end stops. Tightened, now OK
Dripping oil from the sump gasket. Tightened but will keep an eye on it.
The positive terminal on the battery has broken off so I'll have to get the big soldering iron out to repair it. It's a good battery apart from that.
Apart from these little snags, the bike rides great and the engine feels nice and tight. Well happy with it.
