Title: Gear change mechanism
Post by: Multiman on April 22, 2023, 12:45:29 PM
I tried to adjust my gear change rod but as it was rusted solid and sheared.
I've got hold of another complete arm, rod and pedal.
However my arm and pedal are in better condition so I'd like to remove the rod and ball joints and fit to my components.

So how do they come apart? Do the ball joints just screw into the arm and foot pedal?

Many thanks

Tim

Riveted in AFAIK, did remove some the other year to fit some new joints. Never finished the project. Must get on and do it soon.

Think I'll leave that alone then and just use the bits I can, arm and adjuster rod.
Thanks OJ

Check out reply 17.

Those are new rose joints fitted to what is essentially the same style of gear change, that's the mod I was doing on the 400 setup, the small part which clamps to the gearshaft is chromed and finished, it was the other part that was so bent I was having trouble getting all the damage out, still got it to do.

Pic of the clamp done. Reply 180.

Thanks for those links OJ.
I've got a mate who races a Morris thousand in the classic car series and has a fairly well equipped garage plus a new to him lathe.
I may see if he is up for a challenge.....

Simple to do yourself mate, a drill is really all you need.

Where did you get the roses and bolts from etc?
Thanks
