Title: Original points for my Cb550F 1977
Post by: alexdecker on October 24, 2023, 12:10:46 PM
Hey all

Got alternative points on my bike right now, and having trouble setting the timing. Wanted to install new original Honda points, as I have heard that would be way better.

Am I correct in assuming that it is item number 3 and 4 on this page, and I should go for the item that DOESN'T say "Alternative part"?

If you go on David Silvers web site they are listed as OEM

30204300154

30203300154

And cheaper by the look of it.

I seem to recall that Alex is in Europe? in which case even though DS are cheaper than CMS after import duties and postage it may be cheaper to buy from CMS.

The alternative part is just a superceded part Alex, initially the part number ended in 005 which were Hitachi points IIRC but then they changed supplier to TEC and it became 154 instead. Both will fit but I'd go for the 154 points myself.

Can't believe how much CMS want for original points, I have quite a few sets so I'll be saving them for when DS increases his price, which he will as soon as he knows what CMS are charging now.

They raised the prices recently - I was a bit surprised to see them gone up like that as well.

The points I have right now can't be set so the timing is 100% on point. There is not enough sliding room for the points. I have been told that is typical for off-brand points, so that's why I want original points. Just gotta take that hit I guess.
