Title: Surplus dust seal on front brake caliper?
Post by: Stuartbellwood on March 30, 2015, 06:32:11 PM
Hi all

I recently bought a replacement front brake calliper for my 550
It came with the piston and seals all separate, along with the seal is apparently a dust seal, basically looks like a thinner version of the seal itself.
Can any one tell me where this goes please? It won't fit into the groove with the seal and if I put it on the exposed part of the piston then it won't be any use at all once I've applied the brake once

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks stuart

Stuart
There should be two grooves in the housing. The deeper (from the face) carries the seal, the higher groove carries the wiper or dust seal.
Good luck
Phil

Can't say I've ever seen a second groove on a 350/400/500/550 or 750 front caliper, or the dust seal. The diagram above doesn't show one either. It's possible that any aftermarket seal "kit" may also fit othet makes which do use them, but are surplus to your requirements. :))

There's only one seal in both my 750 callipers.

Some other Hondas use a twin sealed piston that is the same size so perhaps it is a "generic" piston kit
