CB500/550 / carb corrosion ?
« on: August 15, 2008, 08:58:24 PM »
I have taken my 4 carbs apart and cleaned them replacing any seals and parts that were showing sighns of age. While doing this I noticed that some of the parts inside the main body of the carbs are going chalky mainly the areas where the float valve seat fits and the needle jet carrier. I wondered if there was a cause for this or is it due to age.
Thanks.

CB500/550 / valve tappet clearence
« on: May 15, 2008, 09:19:30 PM »
I have been told that through use the valve tappet gap gets smaller as the valve beds deeper into its seat, I always thought that with wear the clearence would increase not decrease, which is true, anyone know?

« on: March 19, 2008, 04:32:29 PM »
Hello, I have a 1979 cb550f and have noticed that the rear brake drum steel liner has warped and cracked, I am told this is quite a common problem and happens when the alloy corodes beneath the steel liner causing it to warp,  I am finding it hard to find someone who can re line the drum, any one had similar problems? any ideas? thanks.

CB500/550 / cb550f petrol tank
« on: March 12, 2008, 05:45:05 PM »
Hello, I have just bought a 1979 cb550f in need of a full restoration. I am doing a bit at a time and at the moment I am concentrating on the petrol tank which looks not to bad from outside but inside it is brown with rust, so much so the carbs are also full of powdered rust that has got past the fuel filter, so the carbs will need to be re built later. I would like to buy a brand new tank but I am told they are discontinued, I wondered if there are any companies out there that make reproduction tanks or if all else fails I could use one of the many tank repair products out there, which product is best?
