Title: CD175 - tips on starting - new coil at fault
Post by: oldh on April 04, 2020, 09:30:28 PM
In February I asked for tips on starting my problematic CD175 and tips were generously given, gratefully received and acted on - thanks to one and all. But no cures.
By pure coincidence I met someone who'd experienced a similar problem with his CD175 and eventually he pinpointed a defective coil although it was brand new. So he put back the tatty looking original and away the bike went.
Luckily I still had my original and did the same with same result, better starting and smoother running. Boom Boom job's a good 'un!

Just a thought CD was 6v but CB was 12v, has a supplier labled the coils wrong?  Wouldnt be the first time ive had new parts incorrect to part number!!

I had a look for any identifying marks on the new coil - there were none. Had a look on Google re 12 volt vs 6 volt and came away confused. Which one then? I will stick with the original for now, so I have a brand new coil going if anyone's interested.

CD175's had 6v electrics ..some were converted by owners though to 12v using components from CB175's/ CB160's

Thanks for that Ashimoto - very useful info. I don't think the bike had ever been converted though as the bulbs were all 6V.
Regards.

However the bike continues to start well enough, although not first kick. I have just drained the tank as the petrol's been in there long enough. It can have fresh when the curfew is over.
