Hi John.

I assume that you have a manual? Manuals? (you can never have too many) - we have pdfs if required.

Also, put your location in your profile as it will save all the "Where are you?" posts and you may find someone close!

ok, check the chain tensioner! duly noted. ;D
Is there a mark on the cam indicating which position it should be in when attaching the sprocket? I gather that pistons 1+4 need to be at TDC but the cam?

Sorry - not a 350/400 pdf in sight...

However, if you go to www.honda4fun.com (http://www.honda4fun.com) they have them all there - pick and chose!

Go to "Materiale" and "Parts Lists" and "Manuali"

Right i've had a look at this. Its the bolt down by the oil filter housing? I think mines been bodged. The adjusting bolt itself is ok but there is no lock nut, just an oversized nut spinning freely. I have to have another look at it, but i'm pretty sure someone has just ignored this for a lot of years.

Anyone got a pic of what parts should be there?

Progress made: New exhaust valves ground in and fitted.
NOS gasket set sourced and bought.

Going to try fitting the head tonight.

DONT PUT THE HEAD ON YET if the rensioner is fubared its a bottom end strip to put it right and the engine is a lot lighter with the top off!!

I investigated it last night. What i thought was a bodge was just a loosened off tensioner. When i had a closer look it had the correct lock nut, but the thread for this was covered in road filth, i cleaned it all up fitted the blades and screwed it back in. I believe the tensioner is working.
The manual is terrible about this though, is there a better online resource for tips and tricks with photos?

Have you tried www.sohc4.net? (http://www.sohc4.net?)

Go to http://forums.sohc4.net (http://forums.sohc4.net) and type "350 cam chain tensioner rebuild" (or similar) into the search box.

There's strength in depth over there.
