Title: New to the group
Post by: SteveCR7 on January 29, 2019, 05:43:14 PM
Hi all, just joined the group as I have an affection for the CB750 SOHC.  I owned a K7 back in the 80s which got an 811 kit, cam, CMAs and various other mods and I still have some major parts from that bike.  I also bought in 1982 a Rickman CR750 which I still own and have just started to restore, hence joining this group.  The CR has been stood for about 29 years so needs a ground up resto. I am planning to get it running before a full strip and have started sorting carbs, electrics and lubrication system.

I live in Solihull in the west mids but hail from Essex originally. The CR shares space in the garage with an 02 Sprint ST 955 and a 73 Kawasaki H1D.  I look forward to chatting with you all and getting answers to those questions on the resto.

Cheers Steve

Welcome Steve. I bought my CR in 1994. I've still got it but it's in large lumps at the moment. I think I have now found a company who can re-nickel plate the frame.
Good luck with your restoration and keep us posted with photos.

Well it took me 29 years to start mine so you have some time yet. Wouldn’t mind knowing who you have for plating, mine will need doing.

I'll let you know when it comes to sending the frame for re- plating. I was at the Kempton Park auto jumble last weekend and got talking to Maitland Racing as he's now building CR Rickman replica frames for Honda CB750's. He told me he uses a place near Southampton. There can't be too many platers around there so it's just a case of trawling the Web. He did warn me though to clean the welds around the brackets as this will cost a fortune in polishing time if left to the plater to do.

Thanks, I googled a few places and found one at shorncliffe in Kent called Central Engineering Design that said £750 for the frame and £200 for swing arm + vat, which I didn’t think was too bad.

Got a bit of advice from Tony Huck at Maitland whilst build the CR750 Rep - very helpful. Surprised he can get away with replica CR frames though as read an article somewhere recently that Rickman are starting making replica frames again - maybe he has permission? Interesting though
