OK i measured up the new gasket and o ring from the DSS kit and also measured up the old ones taken off (OK I know these will have been compressed but I was curious)
The pic shows the measurements 1) Does anyone have these measurements for NOS parts 2) Can anyone confirm if the DSS parts are going to be OK 318

Some after market gaskets are thicker meaning the OEM O ring sizes do not seal. Thx Julie any idea what the OEM Head Gasket thickness is? I should add I got a full gasket set from DS as it was shown as NE on their website but came on a plain card back with no branding so no idea of the manufacturer. Hopefully head gasket and O rings should be compatible but am now worried - wondered if any one else had used the DS set recently 320

Got head off yesterday and found I had used wrong O rings on last rebuild looks like they were actually below the level of the head gasket !! Moral measure twice cut once as they say or more haste less speed. Next issue is 2 of the threads on the carb float bowls have stripped as I have had the damn things apart that many times. Luckily my local machiner can helicoil them 323

I need to change my head gasket and can either buy the OEM one from DS OR I could get the aftermarket set from DS which gives me a complete engine set for same price And advice on way to go our an alternative source of aftermarket stuff that works Reason I ask as in an earlier post Trigger suggested that aftermarket ones are no good cos they are thinner and the o rings won’t seal which is the problem I have with an oil weep that is deffo coming from the head gasket level. Strange as on an earlier build i used an aftermarket set and had no issues 327

Hopefully all fixed, turns out the pad was binding in the cylinder when I stripped it down but piston seemed fine.
Cleaned up all, emeryed around the metal on the pad back and made shire it was free in the bore and then applied some copper grease on reassembly, new fluid etc and all now fine 328
CB500/550 / Re: Front Brake adjustment question« on: May 07, 2019, 01:36:40 PM »Usually caused by the seal sticking Paul, the groove it sits in can get clogged with crap and it affects the way the seal distorts as the piston moves out, this means it hasn't the power to pull the piston back and the brake binds as a result, you need to check the piston seal and it's groove and replace if needed. I am having some issues setting up my front brake. I have adjusted it according to the manual so wheel spins freely but then when i squeeze the brake it seems to be binding.
I have checked and lubricated the swinging pivot and this is all moving freely so I cant understand why the brake is binding all the time. Makes it a hard job to back it out of the garage as well!!! 330
