Title: Donations
Post by: AshimotoK0 on October 07, 2016, 09:11:43 PM
Felt really  guilty today about  using up SteveD's web storage by repeatedly posting pictures 'cos Trigger and Julie can't ever seem to  see them, that  it dawned on me that it's probably  donation time again. Better for me to   chivvy everyone along gently  before our resident nurse kicks your a*ses or you get a posthumous roasting from that RIP member up in the clouds   :D :D

Thanks for doing a great job Steve.

Thanks Ash.
It costs £400 per year to host. Most of the cost is in the security and anti spam software but the disc space isn't free (and my G** we use a lot of it!)
I manage and host a couple of dozen sites, mostly tiny but this one and www.tvam.org occupy Gigabytes (literally)

Resident arse kicker, me, never Ash  :o :o but yes a timely reminder that this great forum does not run on fresh air so donations are vital. I'm sorry Trig and myself can't see some of the pics, we will try harder in future  ;D ;D ;D

Hi Chaps.
Just a gentle and polite reminder that it is our donations that keep this forum up and running. We need some money in the kitty. If you think of how much knowledge, fun and advice we all gain from this resource and how our bikes would not be as good as they are without it, I think a handful of shrapnel every so often is a small price to pay. It's probably the most cost effective and readily available thing we have to keep our old girls on the road, lets not lose it.
Ta in advance
Julie xx

Yes Ash, I noticed that. I think you and me did the groundwork though  ;D ;D ;D.Maybe I was just too 'pink, fluffy and nice' about it. Trig just said it in a way you men understand (the only way Trig knows and along the same lines as our dear departed Bitsa would have done!!!!). Anyway, good to see such support for this great forum.

OK boys and girls, the kitty is getting slim and needs a bit of fattening up. As all old gits on this forum are aware it costs £400 a year to run all this great forum of information. So, it is time for a little donation to keep it going.
My biggest bug at the moment is new members joining to get info, which is saving them money and then not putting a single penny in............YES, I mean YOU ;) ;) ;)

Another nice way to donate on here, particularly if you are strapped for cash is to put the odd part you will never ever need in the sales section and ask for a small donation to the site instead of taking payment yourself.

I echo everyone else on this ..no shame on anyone who is stuck for cash...I suppose we just want to at least generate enough funds communaly for SteveD to do his good stuff and keep it running.
Title: Re: Donations

The last donation reminder was last year  :o

Steve gives his time so, before you guys and girls spend all your hard earned cash on ice cream's. The forum needs a small amount of your hard earned cash to keep all this information going (Not as much as the Tax man will take from you with, Very little return).

I agree Roy. People come on this forum with a problem with there SOHC and we get it sorted for them and, as you say, they avoid a little contribution to the site to keep it up and running.

As the riding season is over and you have no excuse that you  have blown your last tenner of some fuel, spark plugs or one of those fancy key rings that match your bike. I thought I would get this in before you blow all that change on Xmas presents, that will be in the recycling bin by Easter.

For those who are unaware, this forum costs over £400 a year to run and relies on donations from members to keep all this information alive, as a non profit making SOHC service. All donations go to the running costs and Steve does the rest for FREE

I've hosted this site since 2007 and moderated on the US site from 2001-2010 (still do sometimes...) and it is a pleasure to see how angst-free it is. OK, we disagree sometimes, but trust me, I used to moderate gun and politics threads over there...

When I went to pay I noticed  Rosco made an extra donation, as I softened some carb rubbers for him... you didn't need to Ross but
a big thanks as it keeps this wonderful forum ticking.

Sean (Arch Stanton) dropped off some Bomber wheel hubs for me free of charge. So I have made another donation to the forum as thanks. Cheers Sean, nice to meet you.

OK, It is that time of the year when the kitty, piggy bank, forum running funds or what ever you want to call it needs a top up of donations so, before all you members out there spend all that cash you have saved during lockdown gets spent on a new bucket and spade, ice creams, burgers or any of that cheap fuel that is about at the moment, spare a thought on how this forum is run.

I can't remember when we had a big collection for the running of this site ( maybe before the new year ) but, give what you can. Donation box is at the top of your screen between Members and Aladdin's cave.

Thank you Trigger for resurrecting this every 6 months.

I’ve said before that it costs about £400 per annum to host this site.

My hosting company keeps offering me cheaper deals to show their advertising and Tapatalk are almost mercenary in their attempts to persuade me to “monetize your forum”.

I won’t do that.

Thanks to everyone for their donations.

Steve

Thanks Steve for the hard work in maintaining such a great Forum.

I’ve been involved with a few over the passed few years; airlines, Kombi, boats, stalking various others digging out infos on projects etc... and observed very different and disappointing decorums to what you have nurtured on the UK SOHC.

(Other) Folk, all too often are quick to be insulted; rude; tetchy, .... and a bugbear of mine, aloof with self proclaimed authority and matching sado Usernames.
BUT, for whatever reason this Forum is pure professionalism and friendliness - I guess a credit not only to you but to us all.

Cheers again, a few £ very well spent. (and a 2nd thank you for no bloody adverts...😠)
