CB500/550 / Garage clear out« on: March 26, 2018, 04:39:58 PM »
Just had a bit of a root around the garage and I have the following available if anyone is interested pm me
1) Full 500 four clutch , good plates in spec, springs, basket, lifter, shim etc 2) Two aftermarket coils CML612 units. They are 5 Ohm primary and 17 Ohm secondary. I bought them last year but never used them as I ended up going full Boyer kit 3) Two original coils working but worn. The outer ht coverings are a bit brittle and have cracked at the entry to the coils but they do work fine 4) Another contact has an original NOS K0 seat in mint condition. Apparently they are as rare as hens now. I can put you in contact here if anoyone is interested PM with a sensible offer if anything is of interest. They are all on fleabay but rather a forum member benefited 424

CB500/550 / Re: Bizarre rev counter problem« on: March 25, 2018, 05:46:42 PM »
Hi again Peter
Thanks for the advice. I pulled the gauge today and yes there is quite a lot of slop in the drive bush ( at leas a mm I’d say) I have sourced another counter from fleabay that the PO knows works well so will go for the replacement option and see what happens Will post results as and when I can get back on the road once this hernia op has eased off some more 426

CB500/550 / Bizarre rev counter problem« on: March 24, 2018, 11:46:18 AM »
Ok I am stumped, rev counter sticks and jumps around above 5k. It seems to be not consistent though sometimes it sticks at 5 then jumps up all the way to 7 or sometimes just plain jumpy.
I have striped the unit and all seems good inside, running it up using a drill on the end of the cable it’s as smooth as anything all the way through the range. I have tried different cables all to no avail I am beginning to wonder if it may have something to do with the worm drive off the cam but it looks ok. Questions 1) anyone any ideas, Iam sure I have isolated the counter and the cable as not being the root cause.? 2) would anyone have a spare worm drive I can borrow for a couple of weeks to try to see if that fixes the problem?Happy to pay postage 2 ways of course. No urgency as am off road for a few weeks following Inguinal Hernia op so can’t get my leg over so to speak. Julie it is sodding painful by the way! 429

CB500/550 / Battery is it goosed?« on: December 30, 2017, 05:34:33 PM »
Just noticed my 2 year old battery (Nitro YB12A-A) was struggling on cranking. I keep it topped up with an optimiser.
Just checked and it needed a massive top up so must have been halfway down cells - agggh!!! Topped up and back on charge but will it be buggered having got so low or will it recover? Interesting that I heard using optimisers tends to dry em up, anyone confirm this. 432

Roy
I am really interested in this question. I am no electrical guru but I notice the 500 uses a 2 wire flasher relay whilst the 550 uses a 3 wire relay. Be most interested if someone can clarify this point 434

CB500/550 / Re: LED clock lights« on: December 10, 2017, 05:29:59 PM »How did you wire the indicator light as the indicators change polarity left and right. Therefore the LED should only work on one side as it's a diode that only allows current in one direction? Roy I must be really dumb but looking at the 500 wiring diagram I don’t for the life of me see how they change polarity can you expand |
