I'm no expert engine builder (Trig your turn to weigh in !!) but.....

When I rebuilt my engine I plasti-gauged the existing shells and crank and given that they were well in spec they went back in. Have you done this already?

If you are changing the "correct" method is to measure the bores AND crank and then use the tables in the manual.

I guess there are some schools (Trig/Ash opinion here please) that say you can use the crank stampings as the bores shouldn't wear but you still need to measure the crank journals

I have attached the relevant page from the manual

For what its worth the OP sensor is a standard part that Honda uses on all sorts of stuff.

Get the part number and do a google like I did you will fid them LOADS cheaper than DS.

Had exactly same issue caused by use of aftermarket float valves. Changed to OEM one and problem solved

You could try swapping float valves over between carbs to see if the problem moves first but I would just change the valve.

Fiddly but can be done with carbs in situ

Thanks James still confused.........

Given my manuf date of Oct 71 and both engine number and frame numbers starting 1 is it still a K0 then?

If so are earlier K0s with square case more valuable then?

CB500/550 / K0 or not K0 that is the question
« on: August 25, 2017, 05:03:01 PM »
I keep seeing references to K0 crankcase shapes as being square and got me wondering

My bike was made Oct '71 and both engine and frame numbers start with a 1

but I am not sure what a "square" case looks like

Is mine a K0, here's a pic. By the way never noticed the bent fin before opinions on trying to bend it back or leave it !!!

My DS aftermarket ones have both split after 1k miles

Not impressed😂😂

My 2 Penneth

Suspicious no number plate I wonder why.......

Yes RH switchgear is US that leads me to think import
Indicators look like same as mine that was a K0 us import
Caliper doesn't look like my K0 one that has ribs cast in it ( suspect it's aftermarket)
Yes clocks are wrong
Yes master cylinder is aftermarket
I'd worry about that leaning on cylinder 4 as could damage piston

Interesting comment about the VIN plate on frame I didnt know that was only on us bikes

Having said that a nice looking bike but no way worth that money but maybe someone is daft enough !!!

CB500/550 / Boyer suppliers and pricing and resistance
« on: July 30, 2017, 03:54:25 PM »
Been, like a few thinking of fitting a Boyer kit when I have some spare pennies.

I have identified kit 00089 for existing coils or kit 00289 that comes with coils.

I have a set of new aftermarket coils, so was thinking of using 00089 but what is the required primary resistance for kit 00089. Is there any advantage from using the Boyer coils in anyone's experience?

Also, can anyone recommend a supplier, as the Boyer site links only to 2 U.K. Distributors but they don't list the Honda kits on their web sites

Sorry if I am asking what has been asked many times before.
