i dont suffer from copd at all. my shortness of breath never improved after having covid back in 2021.  what i cant figure out is how nicotine could improve my breathing. i'm pleased obviously, but it doesnt make sense. weird.

Oddly enough I was talking to a mate today whose niece has been left with no sense of smell or taste having since been told it's  long Covid related that was alleged to have been confirmed by a blood test at a Bristol Hospital.
He had heard of other folk with your experience as regards Nicotine helping - as you state weird.
I did not know there was some sort of test that can detect Long Covid.

I heated the end of the swingarm and just knocked out the bush with a long steel rod. Came out pretty easy, no cutting.

Are you refering to the short bushes that used to be plastic (Julies are Brass) or the long Center Collar shown in the parts book diagram as item 13 p/n 52141-300-000 a hefty £103.22  from DS?

I've contacted the tool provider who supply the same tool to DS. It appears that the supplier for the retainers were the issue. I've been offered some turned down pins as an option for my tool. I will contact DS and see if they can supply a better part. The rear tool is a different design to the front one.

Update DS have tried their tool in the three retainers they have on the shelf - one does not fit the tool. They will not send me a replacement part until they have recived my part back and tried it in their tool!

I don't want to pry do you have some level of COPD that causes you to struggle?

I used the bushes that Julie sells in my 400 & 500 - they are spot on.

I put the replacement bushes in the freezer overnight then drited them in with out too much difficulty.

I don't recall any removable inner steel tube, it is shown in the parts book - I obviously left mine as it was.

Oddly enough I still have one lingering effect from my first dose of Covid back in 2020 I think it was.
It left me with a painful left foot in the area where my toes sort of fit to my foot. It's about an inch in from the toe next to the smallest. Its not 24/7 it comes on mostly in cold weather
Due to Covid my GP palmed me off to another surgery who in turn palmed off to another clinic that specialise in feet.
I had to do an online application form that resulted in them telling me that as I could walk with pain it was not urgent so that came to the end of that fiasco.
It all went away with the warmer weather but this winter it's come back much more often. It feels as though I have a huge stone in my left shoe so when it's bad I have to walk on my left heel. I've done some research as it's so difficult to get a GP appointment - I'm pretty sure it's the onset of Morton's Neuroma.

I wondered if anyone here has this condition?
Luckily despite having Covid a second time last year my breathing has not been affected.
Interesting how the Nicotine patch has worked.👍

Nice warm day so decided to finish fitting the rear wheel bearings this afternoom, new bearing had been in the freezer in a zip lock bag for a few days, heated the hub center up with an old hair dryer - they knocked in without difficulty using my drift tool. Center spacer held in position with piece of plasic pipe. so it's all good for when the axle is fitted nicely aligned.

Fitted all new drive cushion rubbers into the slots with a very light coat of red rubber grease, D ring fitted using same grease.
Greased  hub center it pushed in by hand but not fully home for the last 2 or 3 mm.

Not sure if it should go flush by hand or if the retainer has to pull it fully home?
I don't want to force it at this stage so have left it for tonight - tea & beer reward.

It might be worth pulling it out to check the D ring is okay - I fitted it as it came I did not turn the D ring inside out.

My rear hub tool for the left hand threaded retainer does not seem to want to fit on the new retainer ring but it fits the old one perfectly wtf is going on here?
It's a DS retainer ring.

Update Fresh day, removed the hub, D ring was undamaged, used some extra grease, it went in easier just needed to tighten the retainer ring to pull it home the last few mm. I used the old retainer as my tool fits this. No big leverage needed on the retainer just screwed in easily.

Just need to decide what to do to about the poor fit of the new retainer in the tool - two pegs line up nicely but the fourth just does not engage by hand - I'm reluctant to hammer the tool to make it fit!

Could it be the DS retainer ring or is it the tool?

On factory air filter arrangement I believe the middle needle position is correct.

Overthinking I suspect is the norm for members here "act in haste repent at leisure" springs to mind as the alternative.

Ted, thank you 🙂 how many turns out are your mixture screws?⁹

I can't help you with that at the moment as the engine has not been started up - 1.5 turns is I believe the norm starting point.

Mine were set at 22 mm by Gerben as per manual.

I agree with K2-K6 on his comments, when I eventually get my 500 running I will use the CB points system as I know it ran on them just fine.
Probably after a few hundred miles I will fit my electronic system that I sourced from Bryan.

Part of me says a hybrid system is neither fish nor flesh so like most things it's down to personal choice.
I suspect I have often made up my mind then seek out answers to confirm my already held biased views.

The only advantage I can see but would not use is that often a CB issue can be fixed at the roadside.

An electronic ignition system (I have one fitted) is a bit like a light bulb it either works or it's blown, not much in the middle assuming the connections are all good to the unit.

My experience on cars is that they are many times more reliable than CB points as well as staying 'in tune' so as to speak even though cars have a different spark supply arrangements.

The Boyer system is probably the best of both worlds in some ways as it retains the CB points iirc.

Seeing those David  reminded me of when a locking wheel nut on amy old Carlton stripped out.
At the time circa 1990 I ended up using a cold chisel to eventually get the nut to free off.
