PM me your address and I'll get it in the post for you. It's a bit damaged but only on the top edge and if you need any measurements confirming I have a NOS one available to measure up.

Max just an idea but I'd also consider making the internal spacer for the rear wheel 42625-283-000, https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb500k1-four-england_model14660/collar-b-axle_42625283000/ the reason I suggest this is because it tends to get damaged when removing the rear wheel bearings if you don't know or in my case don't remember to drive out the O/S bearing first. I had to buy a new one and got the last one in stock at CMS, cost me around £30 inc P&P. They are very hard to find these days so maybe consider making some and selling them on Ebay for instance. Part 12 on this diagram. https://images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/honda-cb500k1-four-england-rear-wheel-driven-sprocket_bigma000083f16_6185.gif

If it helps I still have the old damaged one lying around so you could have that to help copy it.

Probably died of repetitive strain injury of the fingers from so much typing.

2 looks really bad, 1 isn't great either. 3 and 4 looks about average but I'd change them if you're changing the others. Where's 5?

How far down have they been dismantled? Sounds like a lifter arm problem, maybe one of the internal springs is missing or corroded to the extent it’s not pushing the arm down enough when it’s lifted. The fact pushing down on the top nut reduces the revs would make me suspect this.

The original finish was zinc plated, it might have been bright zinc plate or BZP as it’s known but all the ones I’ve ever seen were kinda dull so maybe not. They ain’t easy to find, either NOS or undamaged but do turn up occasionally on Ebay. I have a couple of the D rings around as one of the members had some made in Europe and I took the chance to stock up on them. The other should be easy to find, just do a search on Ebay for a nitrile ring with those dimensions.

The numbers are batch codes, they are normally useless unless you can see the colour still on the side of the shell in which case it's logical to assume that all shells with the batch code on are the same colour.

One's pretty bad, hows the crank journal on that shell location?

Roo has his engine done in Cerakote IIRC.

the casings are 100% painted and lacquered, Honda are still doing this to this day,  I've got a grab rail off a VT1100 that you can just make them out and that's after being sanded really flat, there are cavities, where an air bubble sat on the surface, paint fills those in, polishing doesn't.

I didn't say they were using it on all models Graham, I just said they were still using it. My CB1300 for instance has the same finish on the clutch cover.

Does the finish on those look familiar?

Or do the grab rails and engine covers on this VT1100 look the same?

You really don't like admitting you're wrong on this.

Like I said, my example may only be relevant to the 77 F2.

No same finish was applied.

All my 500 rocker covers were painted, never seen one bare alloy.

Whilst it started as a 500 thread the 550F2 also uses the same finish as the 500 so it's relevant to the topic. As I said, Honda are still using the same finish to this day, fork sliders are common in this finish, including both the 500 and 550 models.

It's an original Honda one Bryan, full top end kit, in that green flat packaging they used to do back in the 70s. I have 2 of them IIRC plus a couple of the bottom end kits as well. I also have a couple of aftermarket kits lying around, must see if there is a difference in between the 2 head gaskets whilst I'm up in the loft, can't recall whose makes the other kits are but Noburo or something sounds familiar. Kits are 40 years old now.

500 and 550 use different rear wheel spacers Roo, O/S side is certainly different, N/S could be the same. I suppose he'll need measurements of both. The engine space though should be the same.

I have a brand new unused head gasket, genuine Honda, for the Cb500K, I could measure that if it helps.
