CB350/400 / Re: Silicon rectifier
« on: July 15, 2021, 09:21:42 PM »
Hi Bryan
Dark green/red from solenoid to diode has continuity as does the same wire from the diode to the clutch switch  Also the light green/red from the other side of the diode to the neutral light
If you look at the photos 1&2 show old loom where positive dark green /red goes to negative through the diode which i believe is correct
Photos 3&4  shows  the new loom dark green/red positive goes to negative through the diode in the opposite direction according to the illustration on the diode which i believe it cannot
Do you think if i changed the wire positions at the plug  around to suit the diode direction  Things might work !!    Ross

 Hi OJ
When clutch switch disconnected in the headlamp bowl i put a meter across them to test continuity
When the clutch lever is pulled i do get continuity so assume all good  and working with the switch

       Cheers Ross

Hi Mr Hairy,    Yes all connected up Just No go
In the manual , following the dark green/red it goes to the clutch switch via the headlamp With a junction to what they call a Silicon Rectifier showing a picture of a diode Is this wrong !!!!  Sorry electrickery not a strong point   Everything works except the starter motor yet getting power to the solenoid via the yellow/red wire from the starter button And the solenoid checks out as good So looking at the dark green/red wire for problems      Ross

Hi  Photos one/two  show the old loom with g/r to positive through the diode to negative
Photos three/four show new loom with g/r  to positive but the diode the wrong way
Is it as simple as removing the wires from the plug and reversing them?????   and fitting the old rectifier in correct orientation + at the top of the diode?

    Cheers Ross

CB350/400 / Silicon rectifier
« on: July 15, 2021, 03:57:45 PM »
HiAll. After taking a year off to move house to Norfolk and do it up I am now back in the garage
Set up the engine which now runs like a watch Easy to start idles nicely Only problem it won’t start off the button When I short the solenoid it starts. Have checked the solenoid across the battery and it clicks so switching
The Green and Red wire from the solenoid goes to the Silicon Rectifier A new loom has been fitted but the rectifier differs between the old and new loom  Will this be the problem? The supplier of the new loom suggested trying another rectifier Which I have but still no go see attached photos the image of the diode differs -  +.  +. - with a diode allowing current flow only in one direction this can’t be right  Help not much hair left Cheers Ross

Have you tried to turn it over in each gear to eliminate the box  If all ok  and engine won't turn on either kick start or button  likely to be engine locked up  Agree with Roy best to take engine out to investigate  First check cam chain ok
