Hi all,
After some words of encouragement on one of my previous posts, I am looking to embark on a carb rebuild for my bike which has been stood for 20 years myself. I figure I've got plenty of time at the moment. If I work slowly and methodically, hopefully they'll go back together again :-\
I've found a couple of options for the rebuild kits … one is from eBay though which always make me worry about the quality. The other is from the US. Has anyone had any experience with either of these?

Also, I don't have an ultrasonic parts cleaner … will it be ok for me to clean each component thoroughly by hand instead? I appreciate this may take much longer though.

How many miles has the bike got?
It may be just need a good clean.
Remove float bowls. Floats.jets.
Needle valves. Check for wear.
You can get aerosol carb cleaners.
Squirt through all the holes.
Do any of the joints leak?

Bikes done just under 22,000 miles, but has been stood since 1999.
Hard to tell if there's any leaks to be honest.
Might start taking them apart later and see what condition they're in internally.

My F2 had done an 'indicated' 14,000 miles....but after what looks like a long period of standing around, the 40 year old rubber seals were harder than the alloy...and I had quite a bit of residue and muck.
I am giving mine an overhaul and fresh gaskets/jets. Not becuase I reckon they are worn out...but becuase the actualy condition made it impossible to really tell!
When you start to pull yours apart...you will tell pretty quickly whether just a clean will suffice...or whether more is needed.
Getting the float bowls off is nice and easy....and you will either go 'Ok'...or 'Bloody hell....'
Mine were not OK. If the bike had been stood with the float bowls drained...
EDIT: But..yes...have a look inside before spending money.

NRP are very good, have bought various carb kits from them and very helpful, don't bother with crap from china on ebay.

I got some from david silver spares. Left jets as was just cleaned. Just replaced all rubber bits.
