It's a bit like oil - you think it's running out then more turns up

It'd be interesting to know what a set of new carbs cost in, say, 1976, and factor in inflation.  I have a suspicion that 1900 euros wouldn't be too much of a premium.

A play with an inflation calculator, converting euros to dollars, gives a dollar price in 1976 of $570.

Before I left my last job they had a repeated order for a valve from JAN 1970, the same month my 750K0 was imported. There were bets on the price back then CW the current price, so I divided the cost of the K0 new by 10k  and use the factor to divide the today price as an estimate for what they had charged. Then someone dug out the 1970 datasheet and original quote for it and my estimate was spot on.

Cheers .. Ash.. Ah yes the days when DS was selling NOS 400/4 rear guards for ten quid!

Bitsa - serious answer:-

Once you're sort of in the frame for 'stuff', whatever it happens to be, it literally drops off the trees sometimes.

Parallel universe sort of thing.  Dunno how it works, but it does.  I've had two NOS Honda 400 Four exhaust systems come my way this year, for example, and it's not like I was actively looking for them.

The bike was less than $2000, I very much doubt the carbs cost over a quarter of the price of the whole bike (http://www.topspeed.com/motorcycles/motorcycle-reviews/honda/1969-1978-honda-cb750-ar40344.html).

Bodd - you'd be surprised.  I remember when the CBX550F2 came out, with the frame-mounted half fairing, the fairing cost about one-third the price of the whole bike.
