Yes, must admit the diagnostic process can be a real challenge, especially for me. Stay with it and keep us updated, we always get there in the end. Could be as simple as a broken wire or restricted fuel flow.

Seriously though, start with fuel and move onto ignition?

From the Triumph Rat site.
If your float chamber is fitted with a brass needle valve you may find the valve sealing under its own weight before the float has risen far enough to press it shut. Symptoms of this problem can be that the carburetter takes a long time to tickle, hesitates on pickup and does not idle reliably. A Viton tipped aluminium needle valve is now available that overcomes this problem. It is now fitted as standard equipment to all new Mark 1 Concentric carburetters.

Incidentally, are you sure both carbs are marked ‘R’? It’s just that they come as handed pairs ‘R’ and ‘L’? You’ll have a devil of a job accessing the idle screw adjustment on a parallel head arrangement. Also make sure the idle jet airways are scrupulously clean. Concentrics are very prone to clogging in this airway and Amal modified the 930 ‘modern’ concentrics to aid cleaning. Good luck and let’s us know how you get on.

It may be worth measuring the CR as anything above say 9:1 on these old motors with modern fuels can be a real problem. I may have missed what jet sizes you are currently using, but I’ve been recommended 190s and I’m running twin premier 30’s on a splayed head. Might also be worth checking the valve timing; if DD believed you were performance oriented, he may have got radical?

Coming on nicely, Ted.
I was wondering, did you get round to having the tank and panels painted?

Interesting, Mick. Do you have a plan?

It’s possible that it was me who asked about oil pump priming. As I recall, I’d read something about using Vaseline, until I was reminded this was associated with the 750 and dry sump systems (thanks trigger). As was stated at the time, “no need to prime wet sump systems” and indeed that proved to be the case.

It’s a it difficult to tell from those photos, but is the bracket on the inside or outside of the footrest mounting?
