Just a slight taper to get them started. Cold plugs pressed into a warm head, but you could knock them in just as easily.

The old pvc insulation is good for 70degc. You won’t be able to touch it for long!

But of course that doesn’t mean you don’t have a problem. Is the temp pretty similar along the full length of the cable. If it is, it’s probably ‘normal’. If the temp is much higher at a terminal, you may have a high resistance joint, which needs dealing with as eventually it will burn out. I expect folk will wonder why the fuse doesn’t blow. The reason is due to localised heating I2R. The current remains below the fuse blowing threshold, but the the resistance has risen generating more heat. It’s the primary cause of most connection failures and domestic house fires.

As Bryan says, put the original jets/needles etc back in, aftermarket jets are quite frankly awful, poorly made, lack of precision etc. Especially the float seat parts, they leak for fun as a rule.

I wonder from where the guy at classic octane sources his ‘kits’. He never seems to have any issues…..or does he🤔

Definitely not an F1 or F2 seat.

The trouble with those scrapers is that a hamfisted user like myself repeatedly snags the aluminium. Put a sharp edge on credit card, preferably the wife’s. Warming old gaskets with a hot gun can be helpful….one of those paint stripping types.

Out of interest do we have any measurable evidence attesting to the  ‘improvement’ in torque and horsepower. Or is this just Honda lore? Genuinely, has anybody conducted a before and after dyno run.  I’m not sure I’m sensitive enough to detect a meaningful change of performance on a 50 hp machine. It might feel different, but is it actually more powerful, torquey…just asking.

I wonder if the American site has the info, I’ve seen a few posts offering opinions, but no actual data? I’ve also seen a post from an authoritative source on the American site who claims a flow job (steady Roo) effects a more appreciable improvement than changing the cam. I wouldn’t know, but elected to port match, clean the castings up and a Newman profile.. just cos I could.

It Still won’t compete with my GS though.

I’m no expert, but I can’t imagine that a cam re profile would be of practical or appreciable benefit without all the other associated work required for improved performance such as bigger bore, porting work, carbs and exhaust. At which point I’d be inclined buy a better bike! I guess it might ‘pep it up’ a bit, but if owners have difficulty in appreciating the performance difference between a 500 and 550, the cam change on its own is pretty futile?

Try this Ted. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=139600.0
Appreciate it’s about throttle cables, but includes some clues

Oh, oh…a Trident. Hope it’s a purple T160V. Not my call, but why not start a Trident thread and see how it goes…?

I presume it’s not an oring chain. If so, give it a good clean and lube.

Aye. I had new ones made by a mate. Just seen a Milyard vid where he does the same to a 900 Kwacker.

So am am I, Ted. ‘Twas the reason I checked the gallery for debris. Done properly there is as much chance of the plunges blowing out as there was when the engine was originally built. Personally I wouldn’t do it again as it was a right faff with no real benefit as it turns out.
