Title: Copper sealing washer 90441-333-000 cb350f
Post by: watty51 on June 27, 2020, 09:13:05 PM
Hi All,
Can the 12 x copper sealing washers 90441-333-000 that fit under the cylinder head nuts be reused. Number 16 on picture.

Ds are asking 3.30 each so that’s £40 for 12 washers, unless that’s the “going” rate seems a bit pricey.

Has anyone else managed to get hold of these from another supplier, or are they a special type.

Cheers
Mark

I don't know. But you could try annealing them.

Heat to cherry red then quench

You can re-use the old ones, but i normally replace them.

The oem washers are not copper but copper plated steel. i have also re copper plated old washers before.

I could be wrong but the 350 and 400 have a different number of the copper washers fitted, 12 copper for the 350, 10 copper and 2 Dowty type on the 400. It may depend on which fiché / parts book you are looking at possibly.

My bad I was looking at the 400 first, but the 350 just says washer and is the same part number as the plain one, perhaps the copperised was a mod for the 400

I’m picking this up to ask about washer size.

The sealing washers I took out measured M8 x 18 x 2mm.

I ordered some new ones from Advanced Fluid Solutions (AKA Silicone Hose World) - £2.12 for 2 as against £7.44 each from DS.
 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GERMAN-METRIC-Bonded-Dowty-Seal-Self-Centering-Sealing-Washer-Hydraulic-Fuel-AFS/271194638445?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=570153990855&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GERMAN-METRIC-Bonded-Dowty-Seal-Self-Centering-Sealing-Washer-Hydraulic-Fuel-AFS/271194638445?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=570153990855&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649)

They arrived and measure M8 x 14 x 1mm.

Can I use these? There doesn’t seem to be any other options size wise.

Looks like that number has been modifyed up to 422 middle number and shows as a thick solid copper washer now

From experience: You're absolutely right.
Took me some time to realize this, as the dowty seals will come out looking much like a normal washer, if it's old enough.

I resurrecting this thread as I am about to put the head on, finally after all the issues I had with the gasket.

Now, as mentioned several times here, the fiche says 10 x copper sealing washers; thing is, I only took 8 out - or at least I only have 8 now, plus the two dowty-type ones.

Am I correct in thinking that I can replace the missing pair with washers of a different thickness? What would be the impact of leaving them out altogether; say on the two nuts by the spark plugs?

Leaving them out completely won't work as the washer stops the nut going down the stud too far where there isn't any thread. I'm sure there should be 12 of whatever anyway as there are 12 head studs 🤔🤔 Have you left any washers in situ down in dark holes, I know I had when I was counting mine 🙄🙄🙄

I hope there is nothing deep down that shouldn’t be there as I’m putting it all back together.

According to teh fiche, there should be 10 copper and 2 sealing (dowty-type) The nuts by the spark plugs that I removed were flanged, although the the fiche says hex; since I believe a flange is a replacement for a washer, I have replaced them with a hex nut and a copper washer.

SO now I am putting in 10 new washers – so they are all the same thickness – and trying to find the dowty washers I bought so I can get on to tightening down the head - they must be here somewhere!.
