CB350/400 / Re: Done any touring on the 400?
« on: February 24, 2024, 03:31:54 PM »

Done lots of touring on my CB400F.

Flew the bike from South Africa to the USA and then from Canada to Frankfurt.
Built it specifically to do some traveling on. i made all the luggage racks etc and used Givi luggage.
To date put around 45000 km's on a trip around up down across the USA/ Canada, all of Ireland 2 trips to Italy and last year went to Iceland. (need to do a write up on this as it was quite something....!!!
Was just in the UK and did a refresh on the bike as i am also going down to Italy in May. with a friend who rides a Africa Twin.

I did a write up about the trip across the USA, i posted it on the facebook CB400F group it is in 5 parts. go check it out (you might have to be a member) look up ttr400

Hi All,

I bought a CB400F frame from Great Yarmouth and need to get it to Telford. ( around 200 miles)

Can anybody recommend a good company that i could use to ship it for me.

I am in South Africa so not to easy for me to drive over to pick it up.

Thanks Kevin

CB350/400 / Re: CB400 Larger Oil Pump Rotor
« on: December 22, 2022, 10:33:31 AM »
Hi,

The way it is done is not in the diameter but in the rotor thickness.
Yes i think the GL 1000 is the same diameter but thicker, it will need grinding down.
The other rotor choice is from the CB750K....it has 2 rotors one is the same size as the 400 and the other (i think the return rotor) is thicker.....will also need to be ground down. and the pump body machined to fit etc.
I make a larger rotor for the 400 pump, it will give around 33-35% off the top of my head increased oil flow. not pressure.

No rush as i have plenty to do on it. i don't mind covering your costs etc if you are in the area. maybe you could give them a call to see if they have one. there was also a 3 wheeler, same engine i believe.

Anybody live near the Birmingham Museum that could see if they have any on display? and take some pics for me. longshot i know.

On the 400 you can install the guide after the head is on.

It's for if you ride off with the stand down, it will flick it back up.

Ted,

better measure those crank journals again.  it should be under the 32 mm size down to 31.97.

What manual are you using?  in the Honda manual no reference is given to the codes on the case, i normally measure the bore of the case. But the Haynes manual does refer to the case codes. i have used them in the past and have not had any problems. ( i still double check with the bore measurements)

Oddjob, been trying to get over since last year, but with Covid it's just too costly with all the restrictions etc.
I'm itching to get to my SA registered CB400F in the UK. had a trip planned for Iceland last year but was moved to this year...can't see that happening.
I often bring parts over with me, so far not had any issues with customs.

While i'm on here.....I need a CB400F 76/77 frame with V5 or a complete basket case bike. anyone who can assist in getting one would be appreciated.
