Yeah, the CB450 might be the right choice, but not as common as I might like... I'll see what's available @philward, thanks, but that's way out my league, and I'd like to build the bike myself, not buy one.

Hi all. After finishing the 400/4 bike(with some minor modificiations to do), i am looking for a new project. Not a resto this time, but interested in building (and racing) a racer. So for this category(sub 500cc, and sub 1981 year), what would be the best pick? Has anyone been racing in this oldtimer class, any experience? I am in the dilemma: 1) Honda 400/4 - here is plenty to work with, maybe go with the 466kit? the frame is different than the 500/550? different for worse or better? 2) Honda 500/4 - no replacement for displacement, right? even so, is this better option(regarding the transmission issues) for racing than the 466 option? 3) Anything else that i am not seeing as an option(XS500, Z500?), but as far as I can see,the power output is arround the same, but with Hondas I am most familiar with, and the parts are widely available. Any other option? Any advice would be greatly appriciated, before i jump into a project with the wrong base Thanks, Kristijan

Well things are finally coming to an end.... The bike is complete, registered and ridden for a 2000km now. Here's picture today from Dubrovnik, some 600km away from home. washed after the trip: Now it's time to make a first service(oil, filters, lube everything...) and fine tune it.(some jetting problems, some tacho and speedo issues) Best regards, Kristijan

Hi all, I have a problem with my horn. I have disassembled it, painted, put it back together, but it didn't work. So I ordered used one from triumph tiger, It's a bit larger one, but it's the same 2.5A 105db horn, repeated, and tried it out, also doesn't work. Now i think that i managed to screw something up while getting it back together. Or there is some other issue, but I do not know what. So, when I connect the terminals on the main harness, it doesn't work. I have put light bulb indicator in parallel, and when I press the horn button it lights right up. So I think everything's ok on that side. What's the use of the small screw on the backside of the horn? Is this the right order: Horn, big washer, horn front face, small washer, blind nut? Am I missing something here? I doubt that I have two not working horns. Here are the pics of the parts of two horns layed out , can I assemble a working one from this? Any advice would be much appriciated. Thank you in advance. Best regards, Kristijan

Hi all, While waiting for some spare parts, the carbs are finished. So it was time to try and to start the engine. Finally alive after 2016. https://www.youtube.com/embed/IP7X_nHfnrEThe muffler will be replaced with the marving one, since I cannot find the OEM exhaust for now. Johnwebley, I can give it a try too, but, i do not think it's a problem at a caliper at the moment.
Oddjob, thanks for the input, I'll put the washers too. The choke mechanism stays since it's a restoration. I have made some compromises by now(el. ignition, dynatek coils, Hagon shocks...), but I will try to keep it as original as possible.

Hi all, Some more work has been done. I have started with the carburettor assembly. New jets, same size as the original Float mounted and set at 21mm New screws and fuel lines Before and after cleanup Choke Cleaned before assembly Oiled felt washer Replaced rubber seals on fuel lines 1 and 2 are finished, need to finish up the 3 and 4 when I receive the replacement part from Canada In the meantime, the coils and spark plug cables are mounted That's it for the electrics part for now... Only horn left, and it's in the mail from Germany. Now with headlamp mounted. That's it for now. I have tried to bleed out the front braking system, but with no luck. I have new braided lines, a new master cylinder and a new caliper. I assume that the problem is in the MC, since there is no air bleeding out on the caliper nipple, clear fluid is bleeding out, but I cannot get the brake to build up a pressure. It does stop the front wheel when I spin it by hand, but with maybe a 1/10th of the force that it should be. I assume that the rubber parts are old and therefore no way to build up on the pressure. While pumping the MC the black dirt was coming out of these two holes from the MC tank, as you can see in the picture, what's why I think that the blame is on the MC. Did anyone have similar problem ? The MC is purchased from the CMSNL, but it's a repro. Thanks for any input. PS:Oddjob, you're right, the plain washer will be put between the spring washer and the paintjob. It's just a few minutes work.

Thank you for your remark. I was thinking the same... The washer, spring washer , then nut. But when ordering parts and putting it together, it seems that there is no plain washer. And that's not the only place that had me scratching my head since it doesn't seem logical. Here's the diagram for the bike(from CMSNL, but it's the same almost anywhere) It's a few seconds to replace it, but, should I? Any advice? Regards, Kristijan
