I have been rattling my brain over this. Can anyone advise on what is an original mirror for a CB550F?. I have it in my head that original mirror's where stainless steel and came without a rubber insert. Am i right or wrong?. Could be thinking of another make or model. ::)

The mirror's i have Oddjob don't have a rubber insert around the glass and look identical to the OE part, but the backs are chrome, not stainless steel. Not sure if someone in the past has striped these down and chromed them up. But why would someone go to all that trouble. This is why i'm thinking they maybe off a different model.

I had some like this until it's recent whack they were much clearer than the ones I have now which are like the ones above in Lester's post

A OE pair of late 1970's-1980's mirror's. Those were used on more Honda model's than i can remember.

The second picture with the boss and 2 screws came out with the 250N and CX500 if my memory is correct and were supposed to make it easier to adjust the mirrors as the bosses just screwed in solid.
As Oddjob said i don't remember any mirrors being stainless, only chrome(with rust) or black plastic. a favourite mod was pattern kawasaki mirrors as the heads were bigger and the stems longer so you were not looking at your own shoulders!!

Spot on Bryan, the above picture are 100% CB250N and CX500. The two screw's in the stem joint were a bastard to get out after a couple of years.
