Misc / Open / Indicator lens ID
« on: October 31, 2019, 10:18:42 PM »
Was having a clear out and found a Stanley Honda indicator lens which I think is off a CB750F2 or a CB400F1/F2 USA. It is in a packet but, lost the part number.
On the lens is STANLEY 045 6779 SAE14. Anyone ID this ?

Project Board / Lets build a SOHC for less than a grand
« on: October 19, 2019, 08:59:42 PM »
Hi, I am new to the project board and have built too many bikes but, never put a build tread up  :o

I have a agreement with the lady of the house that, we can not buy anymore bikes but, no mention of building any  ;)
I always read about how much these bikes cost to build and I know from first hand experience that they are not getting cheaper so, I have set myself a challenge to build one for less than £1000. Not sure if this is possible but, we will try.

Have got hold of a 500 four frame and have been donated a 550 engine, 500 hubs, 550 forks, 550 carbs, 550F1 tank ( thank you to all the members that have donated) and will be using parts from my stash that will need refurbing.

I will not be using any CAD or special tech stuff, it will be a tape measure, Vernier and cutting out bits of carboard to make templates.
I will not be using pods, clip on bars or any hi-tech electrics.

I have stripped down the engine that was donated by a member who got it off another member and had been fully rebuilt using youtube vids  :o. The engine had about £500 of new parts fitted but, the builder had used silicone which had blocked the oil ways and destroyed the crank. But, a few £££ goodies can be reused like, the primary chain.

Today i started chopping the frame and putting a hoop on and trying a few parts out.

Thank you for all your time last year with the charging problem on my 750 charging with the headlight on. I had time today to strip it down and found a few melted wires in the main loom. This may be because when i put the first regulator on it, was pushing out more than 16v.

These are both UK K6 cases, first clue 2468164 has a M6 top bolt and 2468581 has a M8 top bolt. How many other differences can you spot  on cases only 417 apart  :o

CB750 / You don't see many UK units in this condition
« on: September 26, 2018, 06:58:58 AM »
My favourite 750 is the K2 from 1972 to 1975 and this is one of the best i have seen unrestored for a very long time. Someone loved this bike  :)

CB750 / CB750 Head Gasket copper or not ?
« on: September 18, 2018, 09:49:12 PM »
CB750 head gaskets have always been a problem on the early engines and i have always got round this with upgraded 0'rings.
Today i was asked a question by a old time engineer that set me thinking. Why has no one ever done a copper head gasket for a CB750 ?
The most important part of any head gasket is the fire ring. The next is the sealing of any oil ways so, does anyone have any views on why a copper head gasket with insert 0'rings would or would not work ?

CB750 / Word of warning

Beware of some of these DSS valves when buying. The repro valves that DSS are selling at the moment have a smaller stem than the OEM ones. So, if you have a bent valve to replace then you will have to replace the valve guide and ream to the repro valve.

EX valve DSS stem  6.530
EX valve OEM stem  6.545
