CB500/550 / CB550 F2 UK Clock Confusion
« on: January 03, 2018, 09:09:51 PM »
This one is been driving me mad for the last couple of weeks. The Part number for the F2 clocks is 37200-404-671 which are Nippon Seiki but, I have seen quite a few with ND clocks fitted to F2, especially non UK and some F2's in the UK. The first confusing part is the middle part number, not being 390. The other confusing bit, is the K3 used the same clocks but, were ND and Nippon Seiki as it depended on the country.
Can anyone throw any light on this because both me and Marcel are confuse to the max.

Misc / Open / OIL FILTER HOUSINGS
« on: December 07, 2017, 09:18:40 PM »
I can't believe the price of the repro ones £78  :'( and I seem to have a stack of them with fin damage and can't really justifying charging the customer that kind of £££. It is only a fin repair but, they are so thin that I have never tried to repair one before. I seem to have a bit of time on my hands today because the other half has taken over my engine building room so, decided to have a go. Bloody tricky but, I was pleased with the result.

CB500/550 / REAR SPROCKET CARRIER PROBLEMS
« on: October 24, 2017, 06:35:20 PM »
Had a little time to look into the problem of the wear on the rear sprocket carrier as I have a few with loads of play and every rear wheel I have bought had the same problem. What I did find is that the sprocket carrier had worn the hub at the contact surface. Nearly all the hubs I measured up had gone egg shaped and there would be no point whatsoever buying a new sprocket carrier and putting on to a non matching surface, as this would just wear the bush on the new carrier, that would be a complete waste of time and money.
The only way I could do this job was to machine down the hub surface until it was completely circular and true. Then I set about removing the old bush out of the sprocket carrier, and making a new bush.

CB500/550 / Tank Badge confusion
« on: September 30, 2017, 08:22:14 AM »
I don't know why and it may be just me but, in my head I have the tank badges on a Candy Sword Blue CB550F2 as silver with a black back ground.  Is this because the F2's I have seen have been washer too many times and the gold has worn off. The part number is only showing badges as gold with a black back ground, same as the K3.
I know that Honda and its badges were a little confusing but, has anyone got a original sales brochure with a candy sword blue to confirm my madness  ::)

Nice looking bike but, not a 100% right. These are making good money at the moment and are a nice bike to ride.   http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CB550F-1977-/182786012834?hash=item2a8ee536a2:g:04QAAOSwDshZx8gZ

Tricks & Tips / Why Big Bore kits are a No in my book
« on: September 21, 2017, 02:46:01 PM »
I refuse to fit or rebore for such kits for the reason in the picture. Bryan has mentioned it before but, today I had a chance to take a pic of what can happen to a liner if past OEM spec. Yes, I know my camera is shite but the crack is under the red straw  ;)

CB750 / Candy v Flake Sapphire Blue
« on: September 18, 2017, 07:54:43 AM »
Picked up a UK CB750 K6 some years ago that needs a bit of love and care. The bike is in good original condition apart from it was left in a coal shed for years.
I have been trying to identify the colour of it. It could be Candy Sapphire Blue or Flake Sapphire Blue, these two colours are very close but, I suspect that the UK did not have the Flake and only the Candy. Could anyone confirm this ?

CB500/550 / UK CB500K1 tyre decal
« on: September 08, 2017, 09:56:02 AM »
Trying to find the right decals is a nightmare, as Honda in there wisdom did so many for different countries. Do any members have a original UK 500K1 that could confirm that the decal in the pic is correct.
This one is off a 500K1 and is a thin alloy plate but, you never know

Misc / Open / Why don't Harley riders ever look in their mirrors ?
« on: September 03, 2017, 08:17:51 PM »
Must of done around 4000 miles over the summer and the amount of Harley riders that never knew I was there.
Today on the tail of two on a B winding road for over 7 miles, I sat less that 10 foot away and even at one point I came down the inside of one of them and was less than 2 foot to the side, and the rider still did not know I was there.
