Title: 340,000 miles
Post by: Paull on June 02, 2012, 02:48:31 PM
Hi All,

I was talking to a bloke at whiteways cafe today and he reckons his 550/4 has 340,000 miles on it.  :o

Its has never been rebored, has had two cam chains, two primary chains and one set of pistons.

He has done some smart mods on it like external oil gallery's from crankcase to head so eliminating the head to bore o-rings and potential oil leaks.

It had a home-made hydro clutch and a single SU carb.

And all this on one clutch.

Cool or what.  8) 8)

The 500/550 will be in the historybooks... next to the pyramids.
Reminds me of that American. Hadn't he done 1.600.000 kms with his Honda Accord? O, here, it is: http://www.autojunk.nl/2011/10/joe-doet-1-000-000-mijl-in-een-honda-accord

I've done 180,000 on my sidecar one, but it started jumping out of 1st. I did keep oil changes up but when I bought it the oil was so thick the starter motor wouldn't engage. That milage of cores could be higher as the tanks paint was already rubbed thru to bare metal by riders knees when I bought it with 50,000 showing on the clock.

That just shows what can be had if you look after these old Honda's, i spoke to a dispatch rider who recons he had done near on 800,000 miles on an old BMW , but when he told me that he had replaced everything on the bike god knows how many times it sort of reminded me of the fools and horses episode where trigger said he had the same broom for over twenty years all he had done was replace the head of the broom 15 times and the handle 20 times, but it was the same broom Ha Ha
