I have read on the .Net forum about the use of stainless bolts to replace various covers on the SOHC bikes causing problems with electrolytic action between the alloy and the stainless. Have any of you had problem removing stainless bolts/screws that have been in situ for a long time. If this is a problem, would a copper based grease prevent this happening. On a personal note, I always fit dry to ensure the proper torque because of the alloy. Bill W.

I have had a succession of old jags since I retired 15 yrs ago. Latest is a 1 of 33 manufactured 1995 Jaguar X330 4.0 litre straight 6 engine, it is a very rare 4 - seat LWB version of the standard X300. Getting too old to be crawling around under them. Even get knackered taking a wheel off to do the pads, they are a weight to get back on. I'll get it sorted, through an MOT and sell it

Thanks for all the advice. I will try with some extractors first, and if it doesn't work, I may ask Oddjob for a stud, if I can hacksaw the stud or if I damage it drilling off the nut. I like the idea of welding another nut on top, but have no welder. I'll let you know how I get on. First job is to fit a new brake master cylinder to my elderly Jag X300. Cheers Bill W.

Woodside, If you could come up ith a brand name I would appreciate it. Trouble is the nuts are at the bottom of a hole 50mm deep x 18mm diameter. probably need a slimline extractor? Thanks Bill W.

I have been keeping all the cylinder head nuts constantly wet with penetrating fluid, since I got the bike a couple of weeks ago, as they all looked dry and rusty. There seems to be a problem with one of the nuts, as a normal 12mm socket didn't grip the nut and an 11mm is too small.
A closer inspection revealed that the nut is rounded off, as the 12mm socked just spins on the nut whether trying to tighten or loosen it.
Apart from carefully drilling off the nut, are there any other methods people have successfully tried to remove stuck nuts???
All the other nuts have loosened off OK. TIA Bill W

Thanks guys, deltarider, I have managed to determine that the Honda Paint colour is R-8C-S, which equates to "Candy Presto Red"
Thanks Trigger for the info to determine an OEM seat.
Thanks again. Bill W.

Thanks for all the photo's. Trigger, would the colour in the first picture be called "Candy Presto Red" as it would seem that is what mine should be. Looks like the seat supplied is also the wrong one, it's just a plain black, two-level seat with no strap across Thanks all. Bill W.

deltarider,
Looking at the parts lists, the CB550 lists are for 1975, 1976 and 1978. My bike was first registered on. 01/08/ 1977
The engine number and the frame number both relate to an English bike from 1978. Frame CB550F 2107548 and Engine CB550E 1146469. Should the 1978 parts list be1977??
Help please
Bill.

On the V5 of the cb550F I have just bought, the colour is stated as RED. Can anyone expand on the Red colours that Honda would have used when this bike was registered on 1/08/1977. The existing tank is just a single deep red colour, with no decals on.
What was the original seat like? The seat supplied is a dual height seat with just a plain black covering.
Are there any phto's anywhere I can access that might give me the correct seat and tank colour.
Thanks Bill W.

Thanks Trigger, I will have to look out for a quality set for the 550. Any recommendations at all? Might have to get the pucks separate, although why they aren't included beats me. Cheers Bill W.

Hi Rob, It is my intention to strip down the full engine/ gearbox, so will need all the gaskets for that. I believe the oil seals are a separate set for these engines. I will havea look at David Silver. Thanks Bill W.
