Title: to re-chrome or not...?
Post by: marka-cb750 on January 21, 2019, 08:03:55 AM
Hey Guys,

So I have a CB750f1 1977, I am overhauling the suspension. My current fork tubes have nothing wrong with them (to the naked eye) other than pitting towards the top, this does not effect the seal, however I find it unsightly. Should I get them re-chromed which in the uk is about the same as buying new ones (aftermarket - not OEM)... thoughts on which route I should go with? also to get them re-chromed can take 6-8 weeks!

Any good brands out there if I am looking for aftermarket replacement ones?

Thanks all

Certainly yes to re chroming them, the general consensus on here is that Philpotts are the best for service and quality hard chroming. Pattern parts tend to be Italian made, and the chrome and general quality is typical shitalian crap, so get your originals re done.

Get them re chromed at Philpots. Cheaper than buying pattern parts and vastly superior quality.

Had my GT380 forks done at Philpots, it was a few years ago so my memory is a bit hazy but i think it cost £160 and took about three weeks, brilliant job.
