From memory a 6mm keensert uses a 10mm tap so an 8 would at a guess be 12mm tap and i am not sure there is enough metal around the holes for that

Any 10w30 is OK and the only way to test the seals is put oil in and see if it leaks out

To register a bike that is not on the DVLA website E.G. an import or one that has never been issued a V5 you need an MOT and an insurance certificate. As there is no registration number yet you get an insurance certificate with the frame number on it BUT these tend to last only 30 days and cost the same as a year so you need to get a Year of Proof of Build letter(can take 8 weeks), an MOT certificate(personally i think it best to trailer to MOT just in case you need to fix things), get all the DVLA paperwork filled in and then get the insurance so that you have the maximum time for DVLA to piss you about

Looking at the parts list there is a circlip on the bush inside the cover, remove that at I think the gear and bush come out as an assembly pushed out from the inside

The only difference I know of on the 500 tanks is that some later US 550's had a screwed outlet on the tank instead of the two screws though the tap. The ones with the screwed boss are difficult to get taps for as its not the same size as the 750. So as long as you have the slot and two threaded holes for the petrol tap you are good to go mate

Hi all back from a week away, forcing that adjuster with a screwdriver is the biggest NO-NO in the Honda service. It is there ONLY to turn it the other way LIGHTLY so you can lock the tensioner back for re assembly purposes. Forcing it frequently damages the teeth on the end and opens the bracket causing lack of lock when tensioning

Way back when you used to do that to mark which bore but on a new higher stressed (relatively) engine I would never do that as it creates stress points
