True, but WD was the first that worked, when in the trade we used the Castrol equivalent as it was less than half the price, also Duck Oil which penetrated as well but didn't seem to waterproof as well

I would never have believed It (Meldrew Moment) but if it works it works.
I would be tempted to keep filling with WD to make sure no corrosion sets in. Just as an aside you do know that WD40 is called that because it was the 40th Water Displacing formula on trial that worked 7115

Before you strip that down get it MOT'd and run it for a while as it could just be sticky rings that may well free off

Considering that construction and use regs say that the speedo has to be within 10% accurate that error is well within parameters. Normally they read on the high side, which would then show more miles so a better MPG

That seal should have a small lip around the outer diameter on the inner edge which means you really need to split the cases, sorry for the bad news but given its not long been together I would estimate 2-3 hours to do it right

Remove the small adjusting screw and fill the thing up with WD then let it sit, shake it all about and remove as much WD as possible then refit the adjuster screw, connect to a battery and try adjusting--works about 50% of the time

Careful with generic copper washers as they are frequently too thin, sometimes better to use a "Dowty" washer (alloy washer with rubber seal on ID)
