CB500/550 / Alternative Indicators
« on: December 12, 2011, 06:42:55 PM »
I hope I'm not going to incite anything here. My '77 F2 is lovely, completely original and I love almost everything about it. The only things that bothers me aesthetically are the lollipop indicators. I feel they're too big and stick out too far. I'm willing to listen to others' opinions about them, but I've started looking for replacements, although I'd definitely keep the originals aside. I saw a wee Morini today that had it's indicators tucked in nice and close and they just looked so much more appealing.

If anyone knows of a similar looking but more compact replacement indicator I'd love to have a look.

CB500/550 / Broken Oil Pan Bolt
« on: December 06, 2011, 07:12:33 PM »
I changed my oil filter and oil today for the first time. All was going swimmingly until I got to the very last pan bolt which I overtightened and snapped off. I was left with two thirds of the engine bolt in my hand.
It all seems to be oil tight, I refilled the oil and rode around for an hour or so with no leakage.
I'm just wondering if I should trust my dodgy workmanship or whether I should re do the job. I don't really want to find out the hard way.

One day I'll do one of these jobs without stuffing something up..

CB500/550 / Does anyone know a good auto electrician?
« on: August 10, 2011, 02:13:49 PM »
I didn't want it to have to come to this but I've been having electrical issues for the last six months and am sick of having to deal with them piecemeal    so I've decided it's tome for someone else to have a look. My headlight won't switch off and my indicators  give me grief sporadically. It's all just too annoying and I'm sick of fiddling around with connections and fuses and that f##king god damned awful switchgear. I'm in London but am happy to take the bike out of the city if anyone knows anyone decent who may be able to look at it.

I realise this goes against the spirit of the site but I am really am tired of trying to solve the same problems over and over again :-\

CB500/550 / PA/Horn Switch

Anyone got any experience with these?

Seems particularly difficult to put back together once it's been taken apart, but maybe (likely) I'm doing it all wrong. I'm a wee bit confused as to where the spring's supposed to sit and how it's all supposed to go back together. Cheers ???

CB500/550 / New Handlebars
« on: February 08, 2011, 09:17:58 PM »
Hopefully this hasn't been covered ad nauseum, I try to look at other postings before starting a new topic..

Anyway, my lovely 1979 550F and I had a confrontation with a recovery truck today, and we came out slightly worse for wear, although I was pretty amazed at what little damage was actually done. It was right at the end of a 180 mile round trip from London down to Hastings and through Brighton back up to the smoke. I got caught out by the 5:30 rush in Brixton. (I'm used to New Zealand roads)

I do have a fairly badly bent set of bars though, and I've scoured ebay and David Slver etc but without any luck. Does anyone have any idea where I might be able to pick up a new set. Would it be possible to bend these back into shape? I know it's hard to tell without seeing a photo but the left bar is bent about 35 degrees back towards the seat. I just wonder if it'd be possible to straighten it out. Anyone ever tried this??

CB500/550 / Failing Headlight Dip on a CB550f
« on: October 18, 2010, 07:16:21 PM »
This is very much a newbie question but I can't figure it out by myself... I have a '79 CB550f, I can't get the headlight to switch on to full beam. I checked the fuse box and the previous owner has installed fuses that are above what they're supposed to be- for instance the 7a fuses were replaced with 15 ones, and where the 15a fuse should have been someone had stuck a 35a fuse there. Not the kind of thing you normally check when you buy a bike and I've only done a few miles on it. The main beam was operational when I got the bike and it's sat covered in a dry garage for about four months- criminal I know... but I do run it twice a week.

Anyway, is this fuse situation this likely to be the source of my problem or am I missing somehting even more obvious? I'll admit that I haven't actually taken the headlight apart, but the lamp works on dipped beam and the park lights also work so I'm guessing the bulb itslef is fine. Any suggestions would be really helpful!  Ta
