Thanks, will try Philpots later. But in 40 years I have never seen such a deep gouge out of a fork leg. 6 x 3 mm and at least 1mm deep.
Back on the subject of primary drive. I have ordered the dampers from cmsnl, about £3.70 each. Not sure how you judge if the old rubbers are knackerd, butt thought just their age would do it.
Primary chain: following up on the ebay advert I have come across this Kawasaki 92057 number at cmsnl. Fits the z400J (4 cylinder) that was sold in the UKin the early 80s, the Z550 Zephyr from much later and a few other kwackers. Marked as CHAIN,#63-139X50L
Obviously too much time on my hands, semi retired and B cold in the garage.
