I always fit the sump after the block so you can check the tensioner is in the slot by looking up underneath. It can miss and slip behind, done that a few times.

Plenty of nasty stuff in cleaning and plating shops. Know someone died when they fell in a trich tank years ago when that was used as common and also a couple of others in our work who had badly damaged skin. And that's on the outside.

Well done Mick. I would get the charging fixed and then take it for a run on some quiet roads and avoiding traffic lights and see what develops.

Well according to RS paints their garnet brown does not require a base coat.
Other sources say UC-16-100 which seems to be cloud silver.
Am considering this on top of their silver.

Thanks for the info Mick and Ash.
Any other sources for the candy paint?
And what about basecoat. Nothing on RS site. I could give them a ring.

Looking for criticism and sources for paint.
I have an old tank that I have de-rusted and filled a few small dents. It is not really worth spending money on a professional finish as it will be another spare. I have sprayed a few bikes, but that was 40 years ago! And fifty years ago I bought a new 500 (my avatar) in candy garnet brown, so that is the colour for this one.

1.   Spray with etch primer because that’s what our factory sprayer did first when I was working. Do I need this?
2.   Spray with epoxy primer. Final light rub down.
3.   Base coat. What do I need?
4.   Spray candy garnet brown all over. How much paint do I need. 500ml seems enough.
5.   Cure.
6.   Mask for black panels at side of tank.
7.   Spray black.
8.   Cure.
9.   Apply striping decals.
10.   Spray 2K lacquer. I know it’s nasty stuff.

Intend to use aerosol rattle cans for steps 1, 2, and 10.
Will also do a test piece as I progress to check paint compatibility.
This has been on here before, but looking for sources and recommendations for paint. I only remember RS paint.
Thanks for any info/advice.

Or, they could be a totally legit company, like Busso, but if reports are to be believed, a lot of buyers have fallen into the 'over promise, under provide' sales pitch of Busso.
That would be me among them. Promised three months, so far nine!

Just because it is historic doesn't mean that all vehicles are MOT exempt. They also need not to be substantially changed. It's on the renewal each year, but surely you have to guarantee that also on the first time.

Bought my new 500 from him there in August 74, £750 I think. Just looked, St Anns Road then. It's a pedestrian precinct now! Then moved on to Daytona, Kawasaki, three years later. Think that was before he was there. RIP.

I needed the top bit for one of my 550s as the screw points were broken away. CB500T bits tend to be cheaper but don't have the oil light but is basically the same bit of plastic. Bought one and changed the jewels and the top sticker.

I have a spreadsheet with with all the gear ratios for for 500/550.
It's a bit convoluted as was done in fits and starts. Also has a bit added for different tyres.
You can swap around with the ratios.
You may notice that it is set to 36 rear sprocket for 550 as that's on my 550F
The internal gearbox ratios are the same for the 500 and 550.
Just the primary ratio changes from 4.0 to 3.063 and as the final reduction changes from 2.0 to 2.176, so they both come out at a very similar speed at revs.
