Title: Wow indeed! Scratched tank for sale $1,750
Post by: MrDavo on December 16, 2016, 12:53:17 PM
NOS candy blue green tank, 'never had petcock installed' but does seem to have paint wear from a saddle (though that could be the lighting).

Also has a healthy scratch, down to the metal, which is probably why it was replaced by the dealer. When you embiggen the picture, it's worse than it seems at first glance. If you were going to spend that much, unless you knew someone very good at repairing 3 pack paint, you'd still want to have it resprayed, or just go to Yamiya.

Yours for $1,750 (+ carriage, import duty etc).It does say 'Sandcast' - but doesn't look very wrinkly to me.

Yamiya tanks (wrinkle) are not OEM and are 10mm difference in the fuel filler to the seam  ;)

Well if you're going to build your sandcast from bits, the same seller also has this gem - most of  a sandcast crankcase half. In what way it maybe repairable I don't know - what the hell did that damage?

I did see a seized K0 for sale in the USA last year with the helpful info that '95% free off with a breaker bar on the crank'. Maybe this one was 'freed off'? oh, and the oil filter boss has been broken off too.

We won't even get into matched pairs of cases etc....

A nice piece of glass and maybe you could make a coffee table out of it.

When I checked I'd spelt it right, I discovered that embiggen has made it from the Simpsons to the Oxford English Dictionary.

At the other end of the size scale, in one episode Professor Frink invented the 'debigulator', that made things smaller of course.

Most interesting is the colour.

It is painted really dark. That means it will be difficult to find any parts matching the tank.
If you find an extra sidepanel also NOS one might be really dissapointed with the colour difference.

Therefor I am going to say the tank is only worth the tank without paint.
The odds it has to be repainted are very high.
So maybe 200 or 250 dollar for a very nice tank without dents.

The other set suggested by RPG750 is a very poor repainted set and again not complete. It misses the airbox in colour.
maybe more expensive to by all the parts seperated and then have them painted but in the end you will be hapier.

the tank has the later fuel cap fitted and is not wrinkle so probably k1 onwards it is rusty scratched and not particularly rare, plus it has been up for sale for a bloody long time, not a good buy at all, i have a nos ruby red one in immaculate condition perhaps i should try my luck lol
