How old is your bike John?
My CD was registered in Aug 1977 so will become tax exempt in Apr 2018.
I have a black/silver plate 'for show purpose only' of course.

I don't think the assumption is correct.
It states:
Since April 2015 vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1975 can display the older style plates.
You must:
. have applied to DVLA, and
. be registered within the ‘historic vehicles’ tax class.

The road tax exemption is rolling 40 years, but not the black/silver plate.

It certainly sounds like she is doing fine on power then.

I do need to get someone in the know to meet up with me though... I don't know what a 70's valve train should sound like, mine sure is rattly!

as a reminder, this is my first classic 4 stroke, so I know nothing!

I guess I need someone with perspective to ride my bike!
Maybe it's fine after age and mileage (24k) is taken into consideration

Those bars Ashimoto... They are almost Harley apehangers!
I'm just jealous of that sweet bike ;)

So it sounds like I don't have a reference point and maybe I am asking a bit much from the old girl!

Love your CB, in that year with that paint I would have a CB over the CD, but later 185 and 200 I don't like as much as my toaster tank.

Re set the mixture to the recommended and turned the choke lever all the way off once warm.
Previous owner was adamant that it needed some choke, seems like it kind of did, just better done via the mixture screw.

With the addition of the new battery and all LED bulbs, the electrical power consumption has dropped. I was suspecting the coil packs being starved and adding to the issue.

I think the bike is now closer to normal power, but still down as 3rd gear revs out quite well (60MPHish) and 4th gets to only 70.

As far as I know, the bike is standard engine wise, other than the exhausts seem to be replacements and there is a pod air filter of unmarked brand.
I know the mixture screw will be off from the Haynes manual, as the last owner (young lad, first bike) fiddled with it.  But the aftermarket exhausts and filter were the previous owner to him.

Gents,
Anyone know of a midlands based guy/shop that can set up my CD?
I have some aftermarket pod filter on and I'd like rid of it and back to standard, at the same time I'd like to undo whatever has been fiddled with in the carb.

Is anyone going to the bike show at the NEC?
http://www.motorcyclelive.co.uk/

I'm planning on the Monday, but could go for a weekend day if there are others going.

Top tip chaps!
I used to scrape through my MOT test every year with the 'phut' sound my RDLC350 horns used to make, as the 2 horn units made their feeble squeak slightly out of sync, it was just enough to get a pass, wish I'd done this!

Looking for a suitable stator plate now

Well that's the first 40 mile ride and we are getting acquainted.

After a good run the horn and lights are working (somewhat) so it must have been just a low charge in the battery. When I swing by my helpful motor factors in Oadby I will ask them to do a battery test on it. I think their kit will work on 6v as well as 12v.
Spluttering above 3/4 throttle now, but as the previous owner knew literally nothing about old bikes/cars, it likely just the mixture or crap in the carb etc.
Looking forward to the journey of finding out!

I was planning on spending less on the bike and leaving a good budget for the cafe conversion myself, but when this came up and I went to see it, I was happy that the work done is a good standard and there is still enough for me to tinker with so I went with this bike.
I'm sure it will turn a few heads on the Sunday afternoon pub run! I have the same thing when I go on bike ride outs on my bamboo bike.
