I'm nearly at the point of putting the engine in the frame. I've watched a you-tube video that shows laying the engine on it's side on the ground and laying the frame over and easy peasy it's in! Has anyone done this with success or is it a spoof. I don't see how you'd get the engine frame bolts in etc. Apart from the obvious way is there another way I've put my son and son-in-law on standby to provide a bit of muscle as it's pigging heavy!

Did my 750 by the laying the engine on the side method on my own and it was easy. Prop the side of the top end up with some blocks of wood so it sits level on its side, you can get the bolts through as the bottom end sticks out further than the frame so you can get your hand in easily to put the bits on

Yes, the laying on the side method is easiest if you are on your own. But, the CB400/4 engines are light weight compared to a CB750 and 2 of you would easily be able to just lift it in, jiggle it about to get bolt holes lined up and hey presto, all done. 2 minute job.
Edit, don't forget to get the spacers in the right places !!!

Also, put some foam pipe covering or similar on the bottom frame tubes before putting engine it, it will save your paint getting scratched.

AND put the correct length bolts in the front lower mounts or you will crack the crankcase

Always do them like that since doing a Z1 motor whilst the bike was on its wheels, rest assured every so often the body reminds me of my stupidity in my younger days.
