Misc / Open / Removing dents with a steel ball and a magnet

Was flicking tv channels yesterday and caught an old episode of The Repair Shop.
Guy was fixing dents in the tube of a vintage telescope with a ball bearing probably in excess of an inch diameter on the inside and a large magnet on the outside.
He said the magnet had a pull of 26kg and he slowly massaged the dents out by working the ball over the dent with the magnet.

Wonder if this would work on fuel tanks, exhausts etc. I appreciate the metal is probably thicker but might be worth a go.

Misc / Open / NE gasket set, do I need thicker o-rings?

Just doing the base and head gaskets on my 650. Got a gasket set from Silvers NE brand.
Wasn’t there something on here a while ago about using slightly thicker o-rings instead of those in the kit?

Think my valve stem oil seals on either cylinder 1 or 2 are shot, if I take the head off to do them will this affect the base gasket?

Just took the sprocket cover and sprocket off the 650 to investigate a slight oil leak and found this:

I've cleaned it all up and waiting for the leak to appear, I'm hoping its the gear selector shaft seal.

Misc / Open / DVLA vehicle inspection should I be worried?

I’ve registered my 74 CB550 and 80 CB650 with the DVLA with no issues at all and both within 3 weeks.
I decided to finish my Lambretta that I’ve been doing on and off for 9 years.
Sent all the paperwork to DVLA exactly as I did for the 2 Hondas. Month later get a rejection letter saying they didn’t like the dating certificate as it didn’t have the date it was issued on.
Got a new dating certificate with the issue date on and sent all the paperwork off.
Last week get a letter saying they want to inspect the Lambretta, they are coming tomorrow.

Just wondered if I should be worried, can’t see any reason why they need to inspect it, photos show it fully built, frame and engine numbers perfectly visible.

Do they just pick vehicles at random to check, or is it because I’ve registered other vehicles before?

This has now been going on since early June.

Misc / Open / Securing side panels

Decided to secure my side panels on the 650.

This is not really to prevent them accidentally falling off, its more to stop them being nicked.
Was at a bike show earlier in the year when a bloke came back to his bike to find the panels gone.

The cost of replacing panels plus paint and the badges amount to a fair bit of cash.

The stainless pvc covered wire rope with a packet of crimp on eyelets was a tenner from Amazon. I just used fiberglass resin and a tiny bit of matting to fix it onto the panel, other end just through the nearest bolt.

Misc / Open / Headlight upgrade

Just wondered what everyone does to upgrade their headlights?

Took my 1980 650 out yesterday for the first time at night and the light output is terrible.

It’s not a sealed beam so could replace the bulb or replace the entire headlight.

Any recommendations, thanks.

This is on my 1980 650, only bike I've ever had with this rubber bit fitted to side stand.
Anyone know the purpose of it, I cant figure out what its supposed to do.
Its not a bumper for when the stand goes back.

Can I use the Rev counter of my 1974 550 on my 1980 650?

My 650 one is seized and was wondering if I could use the 550 one temporarily to set the carbs up.

What does everyone use to paint their calipers?

I tried Simoniz Tough Paint on top of etch primer and one drip of brake fluid has lifted it already.

Misc / Open / Replacing tyres yourself, any tips?

Got my new tyres, tubes and rim tape. Got tyre levers, rim protectors and the proper tyre soap.

Any tips before I attempt removal and fitting the new ones.
