My second hand steering lock and key arrived today. I pulled the key out and thought, that number looks familiar. Got my bike keys out and the numbers are the same  I might go and buy a lottery ticket later

Just removed my ropey 4 into 2 exhaust, no idea what make.
Fitted my Motad 4 into 1, the bracket on the Motad stops the center stand but only just.
The very edge on the bracket just stops the very edge of the stand foot and the stand foot the other side is probably only 10mm from the chain.
I have made the clearance bigger for now by fitting a bolt facing the ground in a hole in the bracket so the stand hits the bolt. Does the job but looks a bit naff.
My question is, when these bikes were new, what was there to stop the center stand?
My old exhaust sat lower than the Motad so it was just the silencer stopping the stand.

First pic is my 74 CB550 K0, ignore the metal plate with switches on someone added, ive got rid and moved the ignition switch back to the correct place.
Second pic is from a bike on Ebay, also a 74 550.
Idiot lights are in a different order?

Today is the first time I've taken my 550 K0 out for a decent ride since getting it registered.
Normally oil pressure light goes out the minute the engine fires.
Done about 50 miles, but noticed that after about 15 miles the oil pressure light would come on at anything below 2000 rpm.
Let it cool down for an hour and it was back to normal, oil light goes out the minute the engine fires up.
Rode around a bit more and its starts doing it again, oil light on below 2000 to 2500 rpm.
Using 10W 40 oil, oil was only changed 100 miles ago.
Engine sounds normal, bike performs normal.
Seems as if the oil is becoming too thin in the hot weather?

Mine has never worked, the key only wants to go in about half way.
Just wondered if i can remove it and strip it down to clean.

My imported 74 550 passed its first UK MOT today with only the one advisory.
The swing arm can be rocked left to right very slightly, does this mean new bushes etc or is there any kind of adjustment that can be carried out?

Does my lower shock mounting look normal in the pic below?
I have compared it with pics online and mine looks way different, looks like I have an extra bracket that moves the mounting point backwards.

Just getting my CB550 ready for its MOT, noticed that the previous owner has put a 4.25 wide rear tyre on it.
Seems fit ok, haven't ridden the bike yet due to knackered carbs, electrics etc etc.
Is 4.25 too wide?, I will probably be changing tyres soon, should i go for a 4.0?

Started to follow ASH's excellent ignition coil fix instructions, but wondered if the same result could be achieved with only cutting a small amount of the casing away.
I cut a small access hole as in the picture with a Dremel with one of those metal burr attachments. Cut through the old HT lead and yanked it out easily.
Ran a 7mm drill bit through the hole vacated by the HT lead, just to clean it out, virtually no material was removed.
Tinned the remains of the old HT lead. Stripped the end of the new HT lead and tinned.
Slid new HT lead up the hole to meet the old one, soldered together and dropped epoxy into the hole.
