I may shoot myself in the foot here but there is a CB500 F0 import from the states on our favourite auction site missing a speedo cable, centre stand, mirrors and indciators, would these parts be hard to obtain if one was to purchase the bike?

Currently at £999 but i do like the look.

F1 ear's have gaiters so there is a rim for these to fit to. The F2 never had gaiters so, a different ear. And indicator stems.

Got them, defiantly a F1 then.

Forgot to mention that the chrome ears are different from the F1 to F2.

Say what? Chrome ears? What on earth are they?

Then most defiantly it's a F1 as that's what's all over it.

It has had a colour change as you can see the side panels have not been done well, red is not the original colour but in fact blue, so blue it will be.

Thanks

So I have a 550F registered 27/09/1976 with the frame and engine numbers matching the V5 but the frame "should" start CB550F2 but actually starts CB550F1 and the V5 indicates it should be red.

Talk about confused.

The picture of James bike is a usa F2 (Super Sport) and steve's one is also a F2 UK. If you are looking at a 1976 it should be a F1, it should say on the frame number.

Now i am confused, the link further up leads me to the following

CB550F Serial Numbers
CB550 F1    1975    CB550F-1000002-    CB550E-110004-
CB550 F2    1976    CB550F-2000003-    CB550E-1109887-
CB550 F3    1977    CB550F-210001-    CB550E-1135380-

This indicates the 1976 is a F2

I know nothing, i am learning day by day.

James picture is of a US model, big indicators and a chrome rear light bracket. Steves is a UK model, small indicators and black light bracket.

Now thats the sort of info i like, and great pictures they are as well.

Thanks

Where can i find definitive images and spec of a 1976 550F bike? I want to at least try to get one back to whatever colour and spec it would have been from the factory but when i google i get every bike of every colour.

Stuff like what indicators look like, brake lights, headlights, decals you kow the stuff.

Thanks

As a preference I would like to buy a complete bike as it is, then I get to strip it down and photograph everything as I go both for the end description plus I get to know what every bit is.

I have been looking all around the usual places to find some sort of 750 which needs loving care and attention and which has not been used to a garage with carpet to sit on so i can please the wife and sit in said garage restoring something over the winter months, so i have been offered a 750 FB from 1982, not my first choice but i cant find anything else to play with, where can i find definitive information on such things as colours of paint, wheels etc from?

I would like to at least restore something back to what it was when it left the factory, or as close to.

Failing that anybody got something which would make an interesting project because that have to many other bikes to play with (here's hoping).

So it looks like a proper UK bike?

It's just the old 550 /4 I had in 76 looked different, maybe my knowledge on this stuff is blurred by beer and wine.

Is it a "desirable" one to rebuild correctly (to keep not sell) or would I be better to wait for an earlier one?
