I replaced the solenoid and all seems wellxat the moment. Apart from the two main terminals two small wires come off the side of it so I'm wondering if they had anything to do with it?

I think it's the rotor. Small and black. Has a small strip of brass on it that creats the contact with the neutral light. Turns each time the gear is shifted

I need a new neutral rotor switch for my 1977 CB550F. Does anyone know where I can get one? The usa seems to be my only option!

Hi all. I've been having problems with my starter solenoid. The ignition sometimes doesn't light up until I give the solenoid a tap. Once I've tap it a couple of times the ignition lights up and off I go. Today the bike cut out and I had to get off and rattle it to get going again. I thought the solenoid was just a switch to get the starter spinning. Any thoughts on why this affects the ignition?

No I didn't take photos as I thought the wiring diagram would be enough. I'm starting to think that the solenoid isn't original and that it doesn't need to be powered from the black cable. I think it might get its power from the battery terminal internally. The red and green wire on the diagram feeds the clutch lever switch so it might have something to do with that.

It's the original solenoid but I'm wiring  a new loom myself. It's the black common wire that powers the horn, switches, oil and neutral lights. I've tried attach a photo of the wiring diagram for a cb550  but can't seem to do it.

Hi. I'm rewiring my bike but I'm struggling to find where to connect the black common wire on to the starter solenoid.  The solenoid has a terminal for the battery, a terminal for the starter motor, a red and yellow cable for the starter button and a red and green wire. The wiring diagram doesn't show the red and green wire coming off the solenoid just the black common and the red and yellow wire so I'm struggling to see where to connect the black wire on the harness to in order to power it up. Help!!!

All done and working thanks. Not an easy job doing it from underneath the bike on the side stand. I had to use a piece of fishing line to hold all the parts on as they just wanted to slide off the shaft!  I then fitted the circlip and pulled the line out once done. Thanks again
