Title: HONDA CR750 Mike Hailwood Replica???
Post by: MrDavo on October 19, 2021, 06:59:44 PM
I know he rode GP Hondas in that livery, but did Hailwood ever ride a CR750? A nice bike but even Dick Mann's CR750 had twin discs.

This is a (loose) replica of a RC181,

Or the early 250/4,

The fact it has a 750 motor is incidental,

A little like Allen Millyard replica RC174,

this has a Yamaha based motor, a work of art certainly,

But at least it not a 2 stroke

and, of course, the Millyard RC174 has 2 extra cylinders added..

This 750 looks quite nice...but no way is it £18k nice

That's a 550, but nearer in cc to the 500cc four that Hailwood actually did ride.

Well, it seems to have sold, it's delisted as no longer available. The 750 was, I reckon, built as a classic race bike, it has all the right, expensive bits. I reckon if they'd taken off the 'bobby dodger' road legal kit, they could have possibly have sold it for more advertising it in the racing section. They could have had a separate photo of it with the road kit. Here's the RC181 look they were after, still a replica but good enough for Mike's son David to have ridden. https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/23600/lot/414/?category=list

The 750 reminds me of 'temporarily road legal' race bikes that I've seen over the years parked up on Douglas prom at the TT, such as a Manx Norton with clip on bicycle lights, or a Yamaha 600 sports bike with a scrutineering sticker on the fairing from the previous weekend's Aintree meeting!

That's neither an accurate cr750 Rep nor an accurate Hailwood Rep - some nice parts but some poor attention to detail for accuracy purposes - wouldn't like to corner hard with those rearsets sticking out so much! Don't think it sold and got relisted.
£5k over priced at best

Clearly the 750 has some very interesting bits in the build, but the written part of the advertisement goes into "car salesmen" speak. Amusingly "All usual external engine mods to cases for this type of bike, Race clip on’s, Modified frame all round" being reminiscent of shonky dealer adds that listed everything even to the level of description of RRWW, meaning "remote rear wash wipe" as a feature.  ;D

Or the adverts that say 'too many mods toi list' ..... and then dont list any.

Modified frame all round presumably means they chopped the rear rails and ground off a couple of brackets.

I've been to their 'showroom' to look at a very overpriced bad condition motorhome. They also advertise a lot of overpriced project trials bikes on eBay.
