Post by: Sesman on November 11, 2021, 03:18:50 PM
Help please. Anybody know from where I might source the alternator cable grommet for a 77 550 super sport?

It is not and never was available seperately and as the generator runs dry i.e. no oil in casing it is not as important a seal as on the 750 so can be reused with a SMALL amount of instant gasket

Ok, may be a rubber whittling opportunity. I need to replace a missing one on another project.

There is some thick black rubber like(when set) mastic they use at work to fix minor damage on trailer and unit wings, i think you might be able to make one out of that OR all the stators 500/550 (except first 6 months 500) are the same so look for a good used one

That’s interesting. I wonder if making a cast using the original might work.

Are you able to find out what that mastic product is?

Regards

Can you print soft flexible stuff? It has to open up to put cables in so flexi and needs to compress when casing fitted so soft

I have no idea, but I’m researching. I guess it depends on the type of media injector. Print solid then cheese wire a slot.

I would cast it with 2-part polyurethane.

That's what RGP750 on here uses to make rubber parts.

The black sticky stuff is Sicaflex 221 but you must get black as aparently the grey does not go hard

Just a thought but have a look at INNOTEC pond sealant. I use it to secure butyl patches for underwater fixes on welded seams in pond and lake liners. They also use it for car under body flexible sealant. If you can form a mould  to push it into it sets like a tough inner tube type, mastic with a matt appearance. It comes in black grey and white.

The easiest place to get a tiny syringe type thingy is from the aquarium shop, they do it in a repair kit tube of about 300cc's,  bit like teh size of a large arraldite two part mixing syringe It comes in a mastic tube as well but they're about £25 a pop. From the aquatic shop it'll be about 4 or 5 quid.

I'll try to find a link and bob it up in a bit after me tea.....
